I hope I didn't come off as an LA hater. If it weren't for my late aunt (MSRIP) who lived in LA (Baldwin Hills, actually) and turned me on to LV. She and my late uncle used to drive to LV almost weekly in the 50s and the 60s and loved the casinos of that era as I do now.

I was trying to draw the similarity between the "in with the new" of both the 1950s and the current times, both aimed at many of those who commute from LA.

And, I always think of Bugsy as a New York (Williamsburg) hood, and not from LA.

I guess maybe I should just keep my money in the Midwest since apparently the folks from Cali can keep Vegas running and profitable all by themselves!

I'm not trying to hate on anyone but it getting ridiculous that Vegas is trying to draw people from all over the world but only designing projects based on what the LA crowd or Asian gamblers would like. Businesses that take customers for granted while chasing a narrow demographic end up hitting unncessary bumps in the road.

Yes, he was a New Yorker, just like many of us from back East like myself, who was born and raised in Boston. But we were and are Angelenos who saw and have seen what Las Vegas could become and has become. Despite all the bad economies, fires, mafia's, Carson vs Newton, Indian Casinos, trends, building booms and busts, 9/11, etc., we have always supported the idea of Las Vegas. And as far as Vegas becoming even more LA'ish, well, that's what apparently Las Vegas want's now, otherwise things will change to what Las Vegas needs in the next step. Las Vegas has seen many things before like appealing to kids, or it's "what happens in Vegas.......", now it's Gen.X'rs. Vegas has always evolved into what is best for Vegas now and in the near future. But Vegas is and always will be appealing to me BECAUSE it means so many things to so many people. That's what i love about it. That's why i have been and always will contribute to the financial well being of Vegas one Penney at a time. "Bugsy" once saw a vision in the wide open spaces of the sprawling desert.....and now 30 million + visit each year, 30 million + 1 Angelino like me till the day i die no matter what.

Any comments on weather this work / noise is affecting the Flamingo Hotel if you stay there?

I've been IN the IP twice since renovations started, and I've never heard anything.

Well, i was there Nov.4-9 and didn't hear anything from my room #1017. Must have been a long break. Now, on the other hand, the Dealertainers....umm....er.....nevermind.....LOL.

I stayed there both times, and the room/casino were both quiet inside. I never encountered any construction noise, but I do know they were working on stuff outside, because I saw the evidence when entering in leaving.

That's not to say that work on certain part of the building could cause different noise. I am just saying that in my 4 days,I didn't experience any. And I spent a lot of time gambling there.

Any news on the progress so far?

I may have 1 more Vegas trip in me before a few years break, do I go this May or May 2014? If May 2014 I really want to see the new construction.

Would suck to go in 2013 only to find out that all the construction finished on time and I could have seen it May 2014.

Please don't post links to websites that just say that they are supposed to be finished late this year. Thanks.

I'm interested in far more noble pursuits. What are the waitresses wearing now?

I agree 1000% Mike! After the Sahara closed I needed to find a new home Casino. I fell in love with Main Street Station and now I stay exclusively at Boyd properties and downtown. I've grown partial to places where they still remember your name and what you drink. I'm still on the fence about what they are doing to Lady Luck...

This all explains why I got a comped two nights and free chips offer. Their bookings must be down. I'm about as low a roller as there is and never thought I'd get comped for anything. Went ahead and took the nights to extend my stay this April.
