Yes..........I said it.
*
Here's the story -
Halloween for the kids last night - at the school.
Raffle at the door.
I buy $10 chances + a T shirt for my son.
The reaction of the woman taking my money was like I was a BIG SPENDER ?
Kinda weird, I thought -
then, the next couple people buy only a buck....or two.
I don't know ?.......maybe $10 bucks WAS alot, to some ?
*
Here's the next two parts -- gets strange -
The lady asks me "Which gift do you want your tickets to go for ?"
I say "The basket, right there."
She says "okay !"
But............I never see her put my tickets into the bucket sitting on the table -
in front of the gift .........every gift had a ticket bucket......I never saw my tickets go anywhere ?
My son sprints away into the Gym Party.........I just run after him.....I don't have time for any questions.

The End of The Night RAFFLE.
About 5 prizes starting small to biggest.
The Raffle caller is the lady who "took" my tickets-- BTW - ?
First winner is a guy /name.......nobody seems to know.....hardly acknowledged
Next winners.......get crowd cheers
Hmmm ?........give the cheap prize away = "on the level, to anyone"......I'm thinking ?
Make it look square ?......all good, huh ?
And now the BIG prize.
The parent's name (winner ) gets a BIG cheer and the Raffle Lady seems VERY pleased and EXCITED !
And by coincidence........the parent's kid is standing RIGHT IN FRONT of the Raffle Lady.
Big Cheers.
Well...........?
I've witnessed rigged raffles before - from the "inside" - yup, seen it several times, in my day.
So.......
I smell rat.........The fix was in.......Elementary School Raffle was rigged !....
Well....it was "entertaining" -
My story entertained my wife too ( she was there ).

I believe the same happened to me at the MGM last year, I lost all my money. Definite fix.....

I used to be buddies with my ex wifes boss. he would rig the raffles in her favor at the company parties. yes, it happens.

My attorney who was also the township attorney picked my daughter to be little league queen on opening day. I was talking to him on the phone a week ago about the "good old days" and he denied any knowledge of the event whatsoever. Then we both started laughing and he reminded me that the statute has run out long ago.

As an elementary teacher that makes me sad. Yes it happens but makes me sad - we are supposed to model excellent behavior for our children! :(

It's time to drain the swamp of corruption, you should run for the school board.

It is true as if you think of what you have observed in situations such as this it is not like reading the verdict in court; judge takes from bailiff and reads, passing it back to bailiff to read again aloud to all.
Usually one person draws the name or number, announces the winner, there are screams and some pouting but no one asks to see the slip for authenticity. Used to be you never thought about it. Nothing is like it used to be I guess.

There was the Mercedes drawing at MGM that when it was caught. Do not know who gave that up. Some executives were rehired on a Reservation in CA.

Did you mean Venetian? Google helped finish "Venetian Rigged Drawing" for me. Or did both casinos rig Mercedes drawings?

Also this Illinois casino now partly owned by MGM got fined $250k in 2000 for rigging a $16.5k cash drawing and failing to immediately notify the control board.

Unfortunately, there are casino incentives to rig drawings if they don't get caught. And if they are even run fairly, many of them are entries earned proportionally to the amount of play. There is good reason for that!!!

The BIG prize = was a Thanksgiving Basket.
It was wrapped in orange cellophane......the contents I could not even see ?
The basket itself, was probably the best thing about it, I'm guessing ?
.....as I mentioned , in my post.......my son sprinted into the gym + I followed - so I didn't see much --
just my tickets not being put anywhere.
My whole thought was "all my money is a school donation, anyway."
That's why I bought a school T shirt for my son, too..........as a donation for the school.

Most of this post is "tongue-in-cheek"
but, years ago, as an adult - I watched "rigged" Recreation Dept raffles on many occasions.
Oh ,hell, when I was a kid - my Dad's Club Little League raffle was rigged too --
geez - one year I won a bat + a glove !!!.........My coach handed me some "extra" tickets he had.
Always like that guy !

The athletic boosters were holding a fundraiser "casino night" with a silent auction. One auction item was hand painted basketball shoes (size and design chosen by winner) by a student at the school who at the time was selling shoes to Rap artists, athletes and other stars. I walk up near the end and it was affordable enough that I could get it for my son so I put down a bid. a minute later the "lady" running the auction goes up to the shoes rights down a bid and declares that the auction has ended.

I complain to the president of the booster club and she asks if anyone else saw it happen, i told her my wife did and she tells me how convenient it was that my wife saw this happen and no one else did.

Tringlomane, you have better info and proof. I heard Execs. were fired and went straight to Indian Casinos until it blew over. I probably should get better informants on paylow.

A local feller won the "50-50" raffle at three consecutive school sporting events last fall (two football games, and a volleyball game in between).
Quite interesting as he was one of the parents selling tickets at two of those events.
He did donate the entire "winnings" of the third win back to the school for whatever fundraiser it was going for at the time.

No "50-50" raffles this year, but they still do the "closest beanbag to the center of the gym floor wins the cash" game for volleyball and basketball.

Our work Xmas party prize draw is crooked as dog's hind leg. Always the same group that cleans up. I won something by accident last year and the whole table was pouting. I did a dance on my way up to get it and dance on the way back...while showing them what I got. Kiss my lily white French Canadian behind ya bunch of...nevermind.
