Story says convincing evidence that she survived crash and captured by Japanese. Interesting.

Saw that. I'm not sure that's her in the photo, but it sure looks like Noonan. Would be nice if we could find out for sure somehow.

No one could have kept that secret for 80 plus years. I don't believe it.

I think most of this was disclosed several years ago -- at least the theory of the course, surviving and being hooked up by the Japanese. Maybe the photo is the new "evidence."

The legs on the Earhart story are pretty amazing.

She's by far my students' favorite each year during our Women's History Month lessons.
They're always bummed to learn that she disappeared.
Thanks for sharing the link, Val!

I believe there is an expedition going on now that is exploring another island where she is thought to have landed on(and died), I want to say it's called nikumoru(something like that), skeletons from europeans were supposedly found in the late 30's along with other possible artifacts. Supposedly the plane was likely swept off the reef , and would lie perhaps 1000 ft down, which would make it very difficult to find(but it should still be there). Who knows?

The captured by Japanese theory has been out there for many years. The photo is new. And just like the Loch Ness Monster it's completely ambivalent:

She was "supposedly" looking at her plane being pulled behind that ship. I've seen other pics where that ship is pulling something that they say is about the same size her plane was.

People love this kind of stuff. Robert Stack and Dennis Farina hosted over 500 episodes of "Unsolved Mysteries". Episode 67, original air date 11/7/90, "The Disappearance of Amelia Earhart".

There are a group of 'investigators' who have been 'chasing' this theory for years.

And I use quotes, because it is tough to tell how much they are chasing it vs selling it. It is always more of less the same story and same theory, but somehow every six months to a year there is a new piece of evidence which they think will "prove" the theory. And in the meantime you can get a bunch of people watching documentaries and specials, under the false premise that the show might end with an incontestable conclusion being reached. But in the end, all you get are fuzzy photos.

Take it for what it is, entertainment. It really doesn't matter now what happened to her, and given their theories aren't changing, it is very unlikely they will ever be able to prove anything. But if it is fun to watch and speculate and follow along on the adventure, go for it.

Wynn Boston Harbor is right next to the Amelia Earhart Dam. Coincidence?

Not one japanese soldier in that photo either, hard to believe they would let prisoners just lounge around like that, especially if she was supposedly being held as a spy?

There was reporting today about the photo not actually being her or something like that. I was too lazy to read the story because I didn't care once I'd seen the headline.
