I just noticed the new Bally's tag line... unless it's been that way for a while

    Bally's. Center of the Action

Well they're not lying haha. And to some people on this board, that center strip location is one of the best qualities that Bally's offers. I think it has more positives than just that. But the location is the obvious draw that even Caesars chose to market and brand the property with.

That's always been there I believe. I'm a Bally's regular but the last few times I've gone I've just watched service slip down the drain and I can only blame Covid for one of them. I'm on the outs with CET anyhow as El Stupido plans to sell my local casino. I have always loved Bally's and it really is the center of the action and more importantly an easy walk to Stagedoor and Ellis Island.

That was also the motto of the infamous Action Park in New Jersey, which was also known as "Traction Park: Where You're the Center of the Accident". If you've never read up on it, you absolutely should.

HBO recently produced a documentary on it called "Class Action Park". I highly recommend it.

I'd always heard the nick name Class Action Park. I cant believe the non-parabolic looping fully enclosed water slide didnt work out!?!?!

I think it has decent rooms for the price, and obviously location. But I caught a 2001 Vegas documentary last week and they were playing up Bellagio, Venetian, Aladdin, and Bally's (and to only slightly lesser extent, Rio) as the fancy pants High Roller places. Their short feature in Ballys showed an enormous high limit room (then titled Champagne Slots) and remarked that they'd just installed the first $1,000 denomination slot anywhere, ever. That's so hard to imagine, but to be fair, it looked nicer then than it does now. And their marquee act was... Penn & Teller (and Jubilee).

I survived Action Park as a child. It was absolutely fantastic. Now, as an adult, with a newly minted adult finishing high school... I can't imagine what the heck my parents were thinking.

    Cannonball Loop!

I can't cite to a particular story on this because there are a ton of them, but there is a rumor (which I 100% believe) that before they opened the thing, they did a test run with a dummy. The dummy came out, but in two pieces -- the head, and the rest of it.

Employees also referred to the wave pool as the "Grave Pool" (several people drowned), and the kayak ride as the "Fryak" (someone was electrocuted).

Curious about this as well. Depending on when it was filmed, Bellagio was pretty new, Mandalay Bay (which admittedly is no longer the high-roller place it was before) was even newer, and places like Wynn, Aria, and Cosmo were years away.

Would LOVE LOVE LOVE to know the documentary. All the ones lately are about the shooting and as interesting as that is, I would much rather learn about the depths of a casino than that.

I use that term loosely; I think it was this annual video made by the tourism board. I've found similar from other years as well but this one is great because so much of what is there now was relatively new, and some stuff still not yet conceived. And yah, the Bellagio was Wynn's project du jour at the time. The new Aladdin aka PHo had just opened at the time and they mention it being the newest thing on the strip. Another of my favorite highlights of this one was that Venetian is so nice, every room has a 27" TV and a fax machine!! Also, that there was some obsession with rock climbing walls in the early 2000s, about which I'd totally forgotten.

Also notable and relevant, they mention Four Seasons 'boutique approach' with large rooms and a 5 diamond rating, in stark contrast to the "lipstick on a pig" redecorated old dumpy rooms they try to pass off as 'boutique' these days - are you listening Cromwell/NOBU/Nomad?!?!?

This is almost better than a documentary!

I might have to do some internet sleuthing over the coming days and make a thread all about documentaries and these types of videos

Pay close attention to the street signs and marquees. "3:2 single deck blackjack" and "10x craps odds" etc, on the strip. At places with 6:5 and gargantuan minimums now. Also noticed signs at places that are now CZR advertising like 12 to 15 bucks for surf and turf or prime rib, but those might have been from the mid 90s. Sad how much more apparent it becomes, paying attention to the small details, how much the megacorps have destroyed so much about Vegas since then. I wanna walk in to Luxor and see..... frickin lasers!

And let's not forget that great period where Bally's not only went to 6:5, but advertised "a whopping 6:5 on blackjack!!!", which was "by popular demand".

So help me, my friends and I would have nearly sold our souls to take a ride on that thing when we were teenagers, despite (or maybe even because of) its reputation.

I’m from Jersey. Can confirm. Lots of my friends have war wounds from that place! I have been meaning to watch the documentary so thanks for the reminder!
