Might check into the El Cortez Cabana room. Since I'm in a wheelchair it seems to be larger than most places downtown. I have been looking at the D, they have a HC room also. Going to stay right before Christmas. The D's prices are way cheaper, but the Cabana Suites is the same. How is the area around the Hotel, I know it's across the street. Any suggestions from the LV Message Board? I was concerned about the smoke. I know the main tower is smoky, and I imagine the Cabana suites have a non smoking floor.

Any and all suggestions will be welcomed :)

Not sure how relevant this will be, as I stayed there in 2010. The rooms were fine. Quiet, and clean. There is always a guard on duty when you walk in, so safety wasn't a concern for me. I never noticed any sort of smoke smell, and I believe the rooms have been redone since I stayed there last. For an idea, and pictures, here's my TR from that visit. Cabana room pics are a little more than half way down the first page: http://www.omaha-rounders.com/elcortez/

    Hi, Richard.

All of the Cabana Suites are non-smoking. If I am wrong about that, I know they have non-smoking floors for sure. I like the Cabana Suites and stay in them often. The one hang-up you may want to consider is that the lone elevator is a bit small. I'm certain a wheelchair would fit, but not much else.

Yes, all the Cabana Suites are all non-smoking I believe. You will probably want to make sure you get a Super Suite rooms as they are bigger (mainly the bathroom). The Jr. Suite and Deluxe rooms are much smaller. I have always found them clean. The A/C sometimes can be an issue in the rooms, so be sure to check on that.

As a previous poster said, the one elevator is fairly tiny. There is always some one out front from security usually and you do normally have to show your key. Then you have to use the key on the lock by the door to enter. Additionally, during normal business hours there is someone working the front desk at the Cabana Suites if you have questions.

They're nice, strange color scheme with lots of bright green. Like others said get the super suite, don't be intimidated by the name super suite and think the rate will be high, I was considering a stay there and the super suite rate was like $10/night more than a standard room.

Since The EL Cortez Tower rooms are no Smoking rooms, And you get charged an exorbitant cleaning cost if they think you smoked in them, How can they be Smoky?

The El Cortez Cabana rooms feel uncomfortable to me.
    Maybe it's the color scheme.
I feel physically and mentally oppressed by the over saturation of bright green.
Like the room is trying to swallow me and I'm trapped.
I don't get that way usually but I do feel slightly panicked in those rooms.
    Not sure why.
    I breathe easier once outside.

Maybe a visit to one of the dispensaries would help :D. Sorry I couldn't help myself that must ruin your stay to feel that way.

Yeah, the last thing I'd want to combat the feeling that my hotel room is trying to eat me is a fucking pot brownie.

You may want an even number, because those rooms face away from the street and have frosted windows that keep out more light. The higher the room number, the further away from the elevator it is.

I've stayed in a Super Suite a couple of times.

My main comment is that you can tell that the rooms were re-done over "old bones." So the rooms just don't quite feel "fresh" or "new." The finishings (bed/furnitire/etc) are new and fine, and so is the bathroom. But I think the suites are what were formerly two rooms, so the layout is a touch odd. And the walls don't seem quite true, the floors are a little unlevel in places, the elevator is a bit slow and clunky, there is a touch of that old building smell, etc.

I have the same impression of the rooms at the D as well. But not Downtown Grand (where I think they may have gutted the tower a but more in the remodel).

I would (and have) returned, so it isn't a non-starter to me. But if you are thinking swanky modern boutique suite, this isn't quite that. But it isn't priced like one of those either.

I was with someone in a wheelchair at the D as far as the casino floor access to second floor and its restaurants and happy to report no issues except for the downstairs bathroom nearest to Valet parking which had very narrow stalls

Spent a night in one of the Super Suites in September and I really liked it. Security is always present and you need a valid room key to even get into the building. It is entirely non-smoking, so that won't be an issue. Didn't find the elevators particularly slow and never had the feeling that the room was going to consume me or anything like that. Fresh fruit in the lobby, Keurig and mini fridge in the room. Bathroom is of a good size. I'll drop in my room video if you want to take a look:

Beware of the deluxe rooms on the first floor. They are really small and IMHO not worth staying in. If you get a deluxe suite, ask for an upgrade.

I stayed in a Super Suite this month. I dug the decor--I like green--and appreciated having a full couch to lounge on. Crossing the street into the casino was easy since traffic was light on Ogden and all of downtown is an easy walk away. Sleeping was comfortable and quiet. The elevator was acting up while I was there (door refusing to open at the correct floor), so hopefully that's not a recurring issue.

I always liked staying in the Cabana suites. I would have no problem staying there again next time Downtown.

These are my favorite rooms downtown, and I have stayed in most of the hotels. The super suite is a must. Very roomy, HUGE bathroom, and really open space in the room. Very accessible.

just today, I made a reservation for a Cabana jr. suite, comped. it is only for one night. the way the calendar falls etc, that is the way it worked out.
when I check in I may try to score an upgrade to the new premium tower room.
