Trips to Las Vegas
2
Wasn't sure where to post this and I apologize if it's in the wrong forum but I was just curious how many singles or fives people bring with them to Vegas for tipping purposes? I'm not a big drinker when I'm gambling, usually just water or diet soda. That's not to say I don't drink at all. Do alcoholic drinks deserve an extra buck when tipping?

I was thinking about bringing 20 or 25 singles per day for tipping. It will be just me solo.

I brought 55 Washingtons on my last trip (3 nights) for drinks, bellman, cabbie, misc.
I usually toss in an extra buck or two of tip for cheerful, exceptional service of soft drinks and the rare harder  drinks I enjoy.
I had 11 ones left to play around with at the LAS slots while waiting for the flight home.

since i'm a table games player I use chips for tipping the servers; typically have a few in my pocket for bellmen and such as well.
Just makes sense to me to not have to worry about having small cash on hand when the chips work just as well (on property of course)

We bring 7.

2 for the luggage check guy outside at the airport.
2 for the rental car bus driver if he/she's helpful
3 for the first round of drinks at the VP bar after we check in

After that, we just get change as we go.

I don't understand why you would need more than 5-7 of them for pre-casino need. Once in LV you can slip a bill into any TITO machine at any casino and get ones on the spot. Why fret about it?

  • "Come on, seven. Papa needs a new pair of shoes!"
  • Ditto
We try to get a hold of as many $2 bills as we can before we go. Since my wife and I usually gamble together and we tip $1 a drink, $2 is our standard tip. We've found that the $2 bills are popular with the servers and get us better attention than two $1 bills. The servers seem to get back to us more often.

Exactly, the 100s make my wallet fat enough without adding 30 or 40 singles to the mix.

Like Snidely, I bring enough for transportation related tips on my way there. After that, any bartender, dealer, or TITO machine can make change on the spot.

Maybe 10 when we leave and a few 5's. After that, we get all we need at cashier or those ATM/Bill changers.

I bring about 10 singles and a couple of 5s.

As others have said, it's easy to break bills in the casino.

20-25 $2 bills for tipping.

If I have mom (needs wheelchair assistance at airport) I bring $50 in 5's & singles. If just me I can cut back a bit as I just need shuttle service tip to Minneapolis airport, VIP shared limo to hotel & possibly bell services. I don't ask for room upgrades so I don't need the $20 trick tip. I carry very little cash in my purse & just draw on my line when I arrive.

I don't bring ones since they fill my billfold which is already bulging with hundreds. I just break a bill at a TITO machine. However, the $2 bill idea has merit so I will bring some of those if I can get them at my bank.

I bring maybe 5, and somehow go home with 30-40 along with maybe 15 5's, and I still tip like a drunken sailor.

I bring $30- $40 in singles/$2 bills with me. For most trips it's more than enough. I am highly aware that I can make change at the TITO machines but there is nothing more annoying than having to break bill after bill to get some singles. It's annoying to do it and it's annoying to the people waiting behind you.

I don't bring any singles with me but do try to meet a few when I am there :)

5. Then the Tito machine does the rest for non drinking tips. $ coins do the drinking tipping to manage the numbers. Yeah, why would you bring a pile?
But I do remember during the coin hopper period we would say wait, and scoop out a handful of nickels (at least $) for a tip and believe it or not it was much appreciated. So back then you needed no singles to function.
