If you're just after somewhere to lay your head at night then Excalibur will do the job. It's about 2.5 miles from Mandalay Bay to Wynn so your not going to find a hotel where you can walk everywhere comfortably. I have stayed at the South end of the Strip 6 or 7 times and the hotels like NY NY and Mandalay Bay are great, it doesn't mean you are out of the action at that end of the Strip, far from it. Like others who have posted before me i always seem to do well gambling at Excalibur aswell. Don't forget you also have the free monorail which goes between Excalibur and Mandalay Bay which is very handy (and stops at Luxor going the other way).

Im not a big fan of the south strip. That said if for whatever i had to stay i would consider the EX esp if the price is right( I mean if ya just want to sleep and dont want a lot or top notch extras, why pay the sky high prices elsewhere??) if ya want big time amenities maybe look elsewhere. Have done okay in the casino, but havent eaten there..

Stayed there on my last trip and it was fine. You clearly said you wanted a place to lay your head and you will have one at Excalibur. You sound like you have your expectations in order, so you will more than likely be pleasantly suprised. Have a good trip.

I do commend their customer service. Earlier today I got a weird offer from them -- really low. So I emailed the head of marketing -- didn't really expect an answer. I got an email back from her in about 45 minutes, explaining it and asking me if there were any other questions. That's pretty much unheard of in my experience. She answered my second email just as quickly.

I'd stay there for that reason alone. My wife wouldn't stay there, so that's an issue.

Well my wife and I go to vegas for different reasons. I go to gamble, eat and drink. I need a shower, a quiet room, and a bed.

She goes to shop and eat, but also to soak in a tub, enjoy the comforts, use the gym etc. Since I like to go to Vegas a lot, it's in my best interest to make sure she gets what she wants. I've never even let her walk into the excalibur.

When we were there on our trip 5 years ago, there was a tv news article about a couple who were there to be married and staying at the Excalibur. The bride was taking too long to get ready, so the groom went down to the casino to play a little on the slots. He ended up winning like $1,000,000+ (I can't remember how much. I was just wishing it had been me!!)

If they weren't married yet, that has the makings of a good bad tv episode. You know, when the husband to be ditches the bride and runs off with a showgirl.

I stayed there 2 years ago via a air hotel package with Delta. I did the $20 trick and was upgraded to the widescreen room. I found the room very depressing, as well as most of the property except for the pool.
I would not stay there again unless it was a choice between that and Circus circus.

Put me down in the "Loathe" category. It smells, it's full of families, the food sucks, and it's too far away from everything. If any place in Vegas needs imploding, it's this dump.

That place gives me the creeps. Even my husband who is 6ft 2 in and 210 lbs doesn't like it. He feels it's not safe. Sorry.:grrr:

It's been several years since I stayed there.

Cons: The rooms are nothing special. The casino is very stinky w/lot's of kids running around by the front entrance.

Pros: The gym and Spa are small but surprisingly good and who can resist going to Krispy Kreme?

If someone is on a budget and tend to low roll, Excaliber is a good place to be on the Strip. Lots of low minimum tables and pretty good VP schedules.

My family and I stayed there back in 2008. Had one of the wide screen rooms in the north tower that was recently renovated back then. It was clean and comfortable. Easy and safe walking to NYNY, MGM, Luxor, Mandalay, and south end strip properties.

Lots of people talk down on this place. It's not the best but it is definitely not what a lot of people make it out as. IMHO.

Generally what you find is: the people who have actually stayed at Excalibur find the rooms to be generally OK... not great and fabulous rooms, but not bad either. The people who have never stayed at Excalibur are the ones that will typically be telling you how bad the rooms are, how they are dumpy and dirty.

Likewise for the casino: the people who have played there will usually say its an OK casino, low limits for an MGM property, lots of low limit slots... the ones who never go there are the ones that tell you how there are kids everywhere, to the degree where it sounds like they are running amok on the casino floor and playing tag and hide and seek amongst the table games or something.

Can still remember about a year and a half ago in an Excalibur thread how one guy was so against the place that every third or fourth post in the thread was by him on how bad the place was... only to finally end up where he said at the end that he hates the place so much he's never been inside it and if he is going from NYNY to Luxor he'll walk outside on the sidewalk rather than go through Excalibur...

OTOH, there are people like me, who have stayed at Excalibur a number of times and have decided that doing so again would be like sticking needles into our eyes. Been there, hated that, won't ever do it again. Given the choice between Excalibur and staying home, I'm staying home.

Excalibur is our Vegas home base! I don't know if the people who hate it are looking for Bellagio standards or what, but for as little as the rooms at Excalibur cost, you are getting a lot for your money. The widescreen rooms are very nice and modern, so not any worse than standard rooms at better hotels. The pool area is underrated, it's actually very nice and large, never overcrowded and includes 4 pools and a couple of hot tubs. Their food court has well-known, cheaper food as well such as McDonalds, Pizza Hut, Quiznos, and Krispy Kreme. I also like that it is connected by indoor walkways/malls to Luxor and Mandalay Bay so it is like having 3 casinos in 1. I would recommend it.

I stayed at Excalibur 2X in 2006 but I wouldn't say I hate the place. Personally I like experiencing different resorts on the Strip and it's hard
to go backwards once you've stayed at the nicer locations. Admittedly (room-wise) the Monte Carlo will def be a step down from staying
at the Wynn but it's another property I want to be able to scratch off my bucket list. There are a few places on the Strip I'll never stay at.

I am staying in Excalibur in a few days time, I am going to try the $20 trick to try and get an upgrade, just not sure what to ask for. ie. Tower 1 or Tower 2.

Any help would be great thanks.
