So, when I travel I want my hotel room to be comfortable and inviting. I'm not one who says "I'm only there for sleep, I only need essentials". Ohhhhh no. I pack quite a bit of extras to make any hotel room I stay in slightly more bougie. Here is a list, though it's not exhaustive: * Remote control flameless candles (helps me see my way to the bathroom at night, creates a relaxing atmosphere for bath time and bedtime) * USB charged room freshener * Glassware (wine glass and rocks glass) as well as a couple insulated tumblers - one for morning coffee and one for when I go out to play slots in the casino so I can keep my drink closed from potential weirdo's trying to slip me a roofie (it happened to me once, so I'm extra cautious and it's hard to keep a close eye on your drink when gambling.) * Bluetooth speaker (music from my tablet is usually constantly going on it, whether I'm getting ready with upbeat music or winding down for bed with chill music) * Fabric freshening spray for my bed linens * Booze (I never trust that my brand of bourbon or wine will be available whereever I'm headed to) * Hooks for the bathroom door for hanging my robe, etc. * Collapsible silicone water pot for boiling water for morning coffee (I do Starbucks via for ease of use). I NEED coffee first thing and I think coffee pots in hotel rooms are gross. * Reusable water bottle for bedtime use * Collapsible makeup mirror. Most hotels have TERRIBLE lighting for makeup if they don't have an actual makeup mirror. * Small bedside fan, because I like air on my face when I sleep. This list is NOT exhaustive, but it hits the major items I can't live without. I know it sounds like a lot (yeah, ok, it is!) but I keep a travel bag with all those items in it already, so it doesn't actually add anything extra to my packing time. So, anyone else want to admit to being just as high-maintenance as I am? Care to add your "can't live without" travel items to this post? *To be fair, when a friend see's (and smell's!) my room they always comment that it is pretty awesome and they're jealous of my travel set-up.
Haha, I’m with you on the air freshener. I usually get the febreeze spray cuz sometimes the room smells funky and funny. But I can’t carry all those things you listed! I already pack too much. But you gotta do what makes you comfy! PS—I’d be so afraid the glass items would break in my suitcase!
Opposite end of the spectrum: absolute rock-bottom, bare minimum. If I need it, I can buy it upon arrival.
I pack them first in freezer bags and then roll them up in my clothes for padding. I haven't had one break yet (cross fingers!)
Cloth bags that I'm willing to toss at end of trip if there's no luggage space. They help me do a grocery run (including to get a large bottle of bubble bath) and to move between hotels. Why cloth bags? They carry heavy items and don't hurt like plastic bags. Also plastic bags are banned here so I'm used to it.
I'm with you on the collapsible water kettle and the Starbucks via Instant, and Mini-Moos, if I don't have a fridge. Gotta have my coffee! Besides the coffee though, the bare minimum. Besides, it wouldn't be Vegas without shin bruises from bumping into shit on your way to the bathroom in the middle of the night.
I always bring my Swiss Army Knife (this is the version I have). It's amazing how often I end up using at least one of its doohickeys during a trip to Vegas.
You guys are exhausted from just the packing and unpacking. I guess that’s the trick to enjoying your vacation….lol
At least three solo cups, gallon zip-loc bags for ice, bag clip to close the curtains, toilet paper (if there’s room), and now soap and shampoo for known ‘shower dispenser’ properties.
You can use the hangers with clips in the hotel room to close the curtains! Discovered that trick last year lol. Not that a bag clip takes too much room, but you likely pack more than one?
I like the tea light versions. They are super cheap on Amazon and they take up virtually no space at all. Some even have a remote, which I love. Game changer!
A packing hint for glassware. I used to buy & sell on eBay eons ago. Once I received a perfectly packed set of stemware - the buyer used disposable baby diapers to roll them up in. All received in great condition. They make great padding.
Most of my Vegas trips were 3 nights... 5 nights once or twice a year My highest priority is exiting the plane with my carryon and getting out of the airport. I want to get to the resort if landing in LV, get to my car and home at trip's end. As a result, if it's not fitting into my overhead roller bag, or the backpack that goes under the seat in front of me... it's not going. Luggage space is a precious commodity. The home-iest thing I bring is my in-room coffee pourover setup with immersion heater and collapsible cone. I bought a small collapsible kettle, saw how much room it took in the suitcase, and returned it. I think I have a tiny air freshener.. from Wynn Tower Suites rooms... in my backpack.
Actually, that's a really good idea. I have one of those promotional drawstring backpacks that compresses up small enough to fit in my purse. I brought it to Chicago as the grocery store next to the hotel charges for bags. It worked great for that. Never thought about bringing it to Vegas. Thanks!
@TiffyChick you are a maniac. I'm fairly particular about my razor, shave gel, and face lotion, along with my hairbrush and spray. Other than that and Tums, I'm pretty easy going.
I turned into a minimalist for the past few years when it comes to packing. I use to pack a check-in bag with a lot of "things that I thought I might need", but then I very often never used most of that stuff. I found the it's way more convenient just bringing a carry-on and a mid-size backpack. Since packing space is at a premium, I only bring the necessities (e.g. toiletry kit, first aid/meds kit, EDC sling bag), along with whatever clothing I need. For me, packing for a weeklong Vegas trip is pretty simple, since I don't need to bring any formal wear and cold weather clothing like when I travel to some other destinations so I only need casual wear. When I run low on clean clothing, I can easily sink wash what I need, since most of clothes that I bring is light weight and quick drying. My camera gear, iPad or MacBook and accessories all fit in my backpack, along with a light rain jacket. Liquid items are the only things I need to buy when I arrive in Vegas due to the dumb TSA regs.
