We cancelled our cruise and instead heading out to Vegas on April 5. We are scheduled to stay at Bellagio because we are being comped but our preference is the Wynn but the rates were super high for those dates and no comped nights were available. However, I have noticed that they have started to go down so I will have to call them. Outside of the coronavirus, my main concern is that they start cutting back on shows and some of the restaurants temporarily shutdown.

I decided to opt out of an upcoming March Madness group trip. I was a late entrant in a group of 15. Concerns about the virus, but also seems quite likely NCAA tourney will be canceled entirely, which is of course the whole point of the trip. All it takes is a single positive test for any participant really, similar to the NBA situation. Vegas will still be there, I live an hour flight away, so it's not a big deal to me (the cancellation), of course I think the virus is a massive deal.

I've got a bowling trip to Reno that is on life support (the tournament hasn't been cancelled... yet). If that is cancelled, I am not going to Reno.

My wife's women's national bowling tournament in in Vegas in June, and we're expecting that to be cancelled, too. However, we would likely still make that trip as our 22-year old daughter can't wait to go. I am afraid that the "smaller guy" (mostly restaurants, shows and attractions) may not survive a major Vegas visitor pullback, so we're going to be cognizant about supporting that sector. For example, we bought tickets to Steve Connolley (the Elvis guy at the 4 Queens) and my daughter wants to see the Friends Musical Parody if it is going that week.

MJ's going to the Super Bowl (in Vegas)
    USBC Nationals, my portion

I seem to remember carrying hand sanitizer and wipes to clean our hands before and after we played slots when we were in Vegas during the height of H1N1.

Waiting to hear if Royal Carribean follows suit.... have Vegas as a backup plan with my boyfriend. If I don’t fly (from Los Angeles), I’ll be driving my own car. I look forward to a getaway, worse that can happen is I hole up in my suite at Cosmo :)

I would not be at all surprised if RC doesn't follow suite. Driving definitely changes things, and spending time in your Cosmo suite doesn't sound too rough :). Have a great trip!

Was in and out of the Vegas Valley for ten days (2/29 - 3/10). This was my first ever trip without gambling, though that was pre-planned prior to the virus outbreak. Not sure how comfortable I would be bouncing from machine to machine or touching chips, though these were never clean. Went to breweries, restaurants and other attractions as planned / without concern.

Flights: To and From Vegas completely full on United. I booked a low cost fare for one flight, miles returning, in September 2019.

2/29: Stayed at The Orleans due to the proximity of the Beer Zombies Festival I attended (South of the Raiders Stadium at the Skinny Fats on Dean Martin). Didn't gamble but casino seemed quiet for a Saturday night. Room was $100 (room, tax, fees). Rooms were cheap this weekend, but expensive the following weekend due to the conference tournaments ($519 / night weekdays, yikes). Beer Zombies festival sold out, pretty crowded. Everyone in close proximity for 100 or so available sample pours. Great event, prime opportunity to spread the virus due to all of the exchanges between those who poured beer and the hundreds of attendees. Not sick as of today, so no problem attending this fest, hopefully everyone else is in the same boat.

3/3: Next day in Vegas, stayed at the Apache Hotel, still trying to recover from their computer issues. The hotel is bare bones, but rooms are bare cheap ($54 all in). Binion's, Fremont Street and The California were slower than normal, but not extremely slow as compared to a random Tuesday night. Pizza Rock and Tenaya Creek had the regular amount of weekday customers I am used to seeing.

3/6-3/10: Final time in Vegas, stayed in Summerlin two nights at brother's house, final two nights at The STRAT for proximity to the Arts District. Not much casino time to report. Able Baker was crowded each night, HopNuts standard crowds. The new brewery had light crowds, but they just opened, so that may be expected until they build a following. The Spring Preserve was jammed packed Monday, likely the result of the closure of Clark County schools.Road traffic was normal throughout the valley. The airport was very quiet (3 people in TSA line, Tuesday 1 PM). No masks on the workers, but gloves for most. Flight full for prime United flight out of Vegas (mid-afternoon). United did offer free changes to earlier / later flights, whereas they usually charge $75 +, though that may have been the result of them trying to accommodate a long standby list / high occupancy on this particular flight.

Some people flying in may cancel upcoming trips, but the key to the impact on Vegas will be the discretionary driving trips from LA/Phoenix. Hopefully the virus will run its course over the next month or two based on the proactive measures taking place, and things could return to normal by Summer. I personally wouldn't cancel a booked trip at this point (didn't consider cancelling prior to flying), but I'm not booking a new trip anywhere until this blows over. Sounds like most people are staying cautious as well until more is known and the infections run their course.

Per my source at El Cortez they are having some layoffs. Business ultra slow. Was told lobby bar only did $2K in business all of last week.

For any twitter heads out there like me follow @john_mehaffey as he's providing boots on the ground reports of business throughout Vegas casinos.

Matt Bridger just got to Vegas yesterday... here is his post on Facebook...

"I wake this morning to nothing short of total panic. People cancelling trips, slot pull cancellations, mass hysteria. Even Circus Circus checking if I'm still arriving tomorrow! It was the same after 9/11, I remember it well. I'm in Vegas and even if I was travelling over the coming days I'd still try and get here if I could. The world has gone mad X"

Finally back after 22 LOOOONG months!

In an interview an Uber driver said she would not be working because her car was the family's car. She could not sanitize the car after every fare and she didn't want to put her family in harm's way. I hadn't thought about that issue. Be safe.

I can only imagine the mess that has created! And, it's a small thing, but think of the fantasy leagues that are going to be discombobulated!
