I agree with Sonya, let's not let this degrade into misinformation. And people should get virus protection information from reliable sources.

    Having said that...

What's it like in Vegas now? Smaller crowds? I know several conferences / conventions have cancelled. MGM hotels closing their buffets until further notice. Anything else? Will shows be next?

I Have a trip in May, and I'm hoping this will have settled down by then.

Maybe we could list reliable sources as a public service

It would be nice to have one thread with updates on closings, shows, etc. No advice. No opinion. Just updates.

A political violation has already been issued. Can we keep this on topic....no speculation on what may happen and share factual information on what is actually occurring, e.g. actual cancelations. This is why we can't have nice things. The thread will be closed if it goes off the rails again.

I’m so sad about the buffets at the MGM properties closing, have two free lunch buffets for the Aria we now can’t use

I can see wanting "boots on the ground" assessments of what it's like in Vegas. I think that's a great service and one of the whole ideas about this place. I don't come to VMB for health briefings or investment tips.

Been here since sunday, seems like a smaller crowd considering Conexpo is in town. People are washing hands more it seems. See a few people with masks but not many. One of our under drivers last night had his whole head covered, safety glasses and rubber gloves. A little weird but to each his own

Seemed like yesterday at Conexpo most people were abiding by the no hand shake rule

bonus I’m up $2800 and leave on the red eye tonight lol

I just got back 3 days ago (March 9th) and didn't notice much difference if at all. Flights were full and people were still gaming as much as ever. I saw 2 people on the flight with masks but that's it.

I was at MGM last weekend, and it was as slow as I have seen in a while. Maybe since 9/11. And that was with a golf tournament, BJ tournament, UFC fight, and big concert at the arena that weekend

Interesting, as we saw the exact opposite. Our flight on SWA was only half full, which never happens on a flight from LA - Vegas on any day or time of the week. McCarran was a ghost town when we landed Thursday night. When we got to the MGM Thursday night, you could have shot a cannon through the lobby and not hit anyone.

I'm frankly having second thoughts about flying out there. Especially don't want to potentially get stuck in Vegas!

I was to attend the NAB Convention arriving on Friday April 17th but you know...
My plan now is not to cancel either my airline or hotel reservations
    I'm still planning on coming

My daughter and her husband flew in on SW on Monday and she said there were very few full rows in the plane. That flight had been sold out for months. They are at Conexpo and she said it seemed to be business as usual there with very few people wearing masks.

Unless travel is restricted or Vegas shuts down more things, I am still going the first week of May as well.

My only reluctance is the 5.5 hr flight from JFK.

My husband’s company all had to go for ConExpo as well ( CAT) and they said it was the same as always there. Maybe fewer people on gaming floors but not much difference.

I just got back last night. I stayed at the Cromwell. Both flights were about 2/3 full. As for Vegas itself, I didn't really notice much of a difference. It may have been a little slower than normal but was far from a ghost town. We had dinner at NOBU and Giada's and both restaurants were pretty full. I don't think I saw more than a handful of people wearing masks the whole trip. Definitely a lot more hand washing and many of the casinos had hand sanitizer available and signs reminding people to wash their hands. From what I could see it was pretty much business as usual.

I have to do a deposition in LV next Friday 3/20. I knew about this a month ago and decided to package it in with a little March Madness "fun", but when I started to check rates at various properties (remember I'm a refugee from the Hard Rock), many properties were sold-out and those that were offering rooms were very pricey. So I thought I'd just fly in and out the same day.

However, yesterday I was able to book The Wynn @ $109 for Thursday evening and $199 for Fri. & Sat nights. Also includes some free-play and meals in the package. For what is generally an incredibly busy time of year, I was very pleased to get those rates. That tells me there's a lot of cancellations going on.

It'll be interesting to see if the NCAA now cancelling spectator/fan attendance for the nationwide tournament will have any affect on Vegas at all over the next week. I think many of those folks, who were already planning to travel to the location of their team's game, may consider a detour to Vegas as an option. My feeling is most of these individuals aren't elderly with existing medical conditions and have already arranged for time away. We'll see...
Right now it's shaping up to be a less than full weekend.
