The Elara (behind Planet Hollywood) has a guard at the elevators and they also have card readers so you have to show you have an active card.

I was at Caesars Memorial weekend. Friday night at about 9:30 I was playing v.p. at sportsbook {either the drink light was not working, or $4 tip will get you good service, but I was getting drinks} 3 young guys, who were within hearing distance at the bar, said they needed ice for their cooler. The smart one said " Go up on the elevator and get the free ice" . I do not think they were staying there but they knew how easy it was to get on an elevator and get to free ice, or for the more menacing access to our rooms. Enough said about room security!

Honestly, I think that this shows the level of care that Vegas (collectively) has for its patrons. Their priority is protecting themselves and their assets/revenues. They'll deter cheaters with **** pit bosses and dealers. They'll deter the comp drink hustlers by implementing light systems. They'll deter minibar scammers by putting weight sensors everywhere. They'll deter petty thieving room guests by bolting down every object inside of the rooms. And they'll deter generous bartenders by putting inventory control regulators on all the liquor bottles.

But when it comes to the guests... who cares, right? The casino floor is a public area for anyone 21 and older, so there's no point in policing that. They don't want you staying in your room at all, so there's no point making you feel safe there either. And even if something was to happen to a guest, what are they gonna do? Call 911? That's between them and the police. Write a negative review? Just post a boilerplate "we're sorry to hear this happened" reply on TripAdvisor. Say "I'll never come back"? No degenerate ever means that, so they'll come back anyway.

So, they may lose money from non-guests mooching off of amenities meant to be made available only to the guests, such as the ice machines. But they'll lose even more money by having security guards look after all of the elevators 24 hours a day, since not only is there no direct return on this investment, there's also virtually nothing to be lost from leaving the hotel room areas unprotected. If anything gets damaged or stolen, it's the guest's property, not the hotel's.

While I'm not a high-roller or a wealthy person by any stretch of the imagination, I can't help but wonder how scary this must be for the "preferred guests" of Las Vegas. I have no problem walking around the casino floor, or even the street late at night with several hundred, or even a couple of thousand dollars in cash or chips with me. But add a zero or two, and the stakes are high enough that there's ample incentive to target someone who might be seen playing for large dollar amounts. If I was a bigger player, I'd certainly be worried by anecdotes such as these, knowing that literally just anyone could follow me up to my room and pull a gun on me in an empty hallway.

Perhaps I'm out of tune with this kind of thing, but do any places in Las Vegas offer security accommodations of sorts to bigger players who might be targets, and whose safety would be especially in danger with "riffraff" having access to what's supposed to be a private area?

You are a smart neighbor Canada. I have asked about security cameras on room floors. It is last on their list. We are getting a better parking experience and resort fees. Vegas is BSing millenials. Wow this makes me like 57 years old.
