    Trips to Las Vegas:
    12
Just returned from either my 4th, or 5th, trip to Hollywood Lawrenceburg (aka Holly L). Every trip I learn something new about Holly L. This trip was no different.

Room - We had room 252. Huge bed and orange scented toiletries (which I love). 2 bottles of water awaited me and the wife, when we arrived. We took the no housekeeping option and got 2 $10.00 dining coupons. Only downside was we had to go downstairs to get towels and wash cloths as opposed to catching housekeeping in the hallway. No coffee makers in the room however there is coffee and tea 24/7 in the hotel lobby. Valet parking is free with your MY CHOICE players card.

Casino - One of my favorite things about Holly L. Average size to slightly larger than most casinos I've been to (including Vegas). I'm a craps/ Video poker guy. This casino has repeater bet on one table and, I cant remember what bet they had on the other tables. 4/5 tables all together and until late in the afternoon they are $5.00 tables. Some of the friendliest craps dealers entire free world. Dealers like Todd (who remembered me from last year), Craig, Mark, Ray etc. actually seem to enjoy their jobs. Too often I've seen miserable dealers who make you feel like you are a bother to them to even place your bet. I always do a 2 way sharp shooter for them because I really appreciate that most of them are courteous and kind. The Video poker is also plentiful . And they have a circle of about 8 to 10 machines that are Full pay quarters (shhhh don't tell anyone). They Include full pay Bonus poker , Jacks or better, Double Bonus, Triple Double bonus and Dueces wild. Outside of Station casinos in Vegas and downtown Vegas casinos (i.e. California, Main Street Station etc) I haven't seen this many full pay quarter games. Wife and I love it. When you enter the casino ( which is just 40 steps shy of a quarter mile walk from the hotel), you will most likely be greeted by a security guard who will wish you "good luck". These guys actually seem to wish you the best when you walk in their casino. Casino cashier lines can get somewhat long especially now since you can get your players cards at the cage as opposed to a promo window.

Poker room - Last week was the 1st time I played poker there. Again, the dealers were the big difference. 2 dealers especially come to mind. Jacqueline and Mark. They made me extremely comfortable. Which is no small thing being that A I was the only player of color at the table and B being the only "out of towner" at the table, Their kindness did not go unnoticed. They asked me for my players card, explained to me the current high hand and bad beat promos and even shared with me some of the history of the Holly L casino. Ill be back to their poker room again.

Dining Options - I did the buffet and the Eatery. The buffet was more than sufficient for my dietary needs. Did the Friday night buffet which included all you can eat hot crab legs. OOwweee and the legs were fresh. Did buffet Thursday night also but was disappointed. Not in the buffet but in the fact that I could have saved $32.00 on our (wife and I) meal by getting a coupon from the casino kiosk which would have saved me $16.00 per person. That savings would have made a good deal..better. Also did the brunch buffet Saturday and Sunday. Great combo of all your breakfast faves like pancakes, french toast, waffles, along with friend chicken, pot roast etc. The eatery replaced there other all night kitchen on the casino floor . They offered an assortment of subs, your standard burgers and fries, salads, a great assortment of desserts and a number of other things to satisfy your palate. They can get pretty busy at night so be prepared to wait in line NOTE : Unless you are getting a combo (side and drink with your main dish) then instead of buying a soda at the Eatery, go directly outside of the Eatery, to your right, and you will find a self serve beverage machine with the same beverages the Eatery has (only free). Psst don't tell Holly L that I told you about that!

Overall Holly L has what I look for in a hotel. Good dining options' I mentioned only 2, however this coming weekend I"m gonna go to Final Cut Steak house (for the 1st time in 3 years)

Most importantly for me, and this may not apply to some, (especially if you don't gamble) . Is the hosts at Holly L. My host is Lauren. In 5 words..."She Takes Care Of Me." My room is always comped. More often than not, my meals are also comped. Heck I hadn't even met her til my 3rd trip there. But she, they, do the right thing. This past Sunday when I checked out, afer a 3 night stay, I asked the hotel check out lady to contact Lauren to see about comping the meals that I charged to my room. She informed me Lauren was off. However she called a host named "Deb" while I stood there. Deb looked at my play and wiped out $133.00 worth of meals BINGO! I've been to many casino where once you have spent your $$ then they say the heck with you. I'm a Diamond within the Caesars Entertainment system and Advantage (within the Seneca casino system, which is their top tier). So I understand the customer service part of this business to a small extent. Its good to see a casino that really appreciates your business. I will never have a reason for setting foot in the Cincy Jack casino, or any other Cincy area casino. Casinos are casinos. For me the big difference is which casinos appreciate your business and give you what you need for an enjoyable vacation. Hollywood L does that for me.

    Nice review
How are they about giving comps to their Vegas properties based on play there?
I'm assuming comps at the Trop would come easier than The M.
I'm through with Belterra until they fix their players club and never really cared for HSI. So Hollywood is my next choice of casinos even though the gf really wants to go to Jack for some reason.

I'm curious if you've been up to the Hollywood Toledo, and if so, how you would compare the two? I've been to Toledo but not Lawrenceburg. I've not been terribly impressed with the Toledo casino, but I'm curious if there are noticeable differences between the two.

My local is Hollywood Columbus and I've been to both Toledo and Lawrenceburg. Toledo and Columbus have the same feel. Other than the smoke I prefer Lawrenceburg for the following reasons:
    On site hotel.
    Offers and promotions.
    Producers room/lounge.
    Friendly dealers and staff.

It's been a while since I've been and I'm curious about the full pay VP. Does anyone have any pics? They used to have 8/5 JOB at the bar but it was back to 7/5 on my last visit. [IMG]

Thanks for reporting on the video poker pay tables, I sometimes wonder if anyone else notices. We usually frequent Belterra because it has better pay tables than Horseshoe SI. As far as I know the only full pay machine at Belterra is a dollar 9/6 JoB machine hidden away in the smoke free room.

As many times as I have driven through Lawrenceburg, I have never stopped at Hollywood, even when it was the Argosy. I was nor impressed with their Columbus, OH casino (too high table minimums). Their racino in Dayton is only 10 miles from me. I have stopped in there a few times for short visits (< 1 hour), but it is only slots and horses. I don't play the horses. I frequent Belterra (get decent comps there), and on rare occasions, Rising Star.

I am primarily table games with an occasional slot thrown in. I tried VP several years ago, but did not stay with it (did not know about basic strategy back then).

Belterra has full pay Bonus at .25 uprights on the lower level against the wall in the VP section.

Thanks. I looked down there on my last visit and half of the machines were disabled. I’ll try again next week. They have a Tuesday wine special and my wife’s favorite is two bucks a glass.

Can anyone confirm full pay VP in Lawrenceburg? I'm thinking of driving down to check out their new Sports Book.

It's been years since I've been to the Hollywood in Lawrenceburg. I used to go a lot when it was Argosy. They had a great huge poker room at the time.
I may have to check them out again.
