It turns out that I will be in Columbus next month, and it looks like I will have a free Friday evening.

I see there is a Hollywood casino there, actually just a few exits away from the hotel we'll be at.

Any comments on the Hollywood Columbus? From googling, it looks like it has an assortment of "real" slots and VP.

It also looks like they have a racino nearby which has "fake" slots. Is this worth going to?

Any other suggestions for the area?

    TIA! :)

For a few years, I used to travel to Columbus (From Houston) about once a month for work and went to the Hollywood Casino every trip, at least once. I was there when it originally opened and I have to say that I was amazed at how nice of a place it was. Every time I took someone else from work with me, nearly 100% of them were amazed at how much of a 'legitimate' casino it was. I swear it is so large and has such a wide range of machines and table games (and a decent poker room) that once you are inside, it is not hard to pretend you are in a casino on the strip.

The area surrounding the Hollywood is not the nicest area, but it is close to the highway, and I never had an issue about feeling unsafe in the area. (There is a White Castle between the casino and the area I usually stayed at in Dublin, Ohio - so that was always a must stop at place for me as it is a deeply rooted tradition I have related to gambling).

I never went to the 'Racino' as I really found everything I needed at the Hollywood.

I live in Columbus, have never been to the hollywood because of the extremely high table mins and, as has been mentioned the area is questionable. The racino is nice but only slots and machines as i am not a slot player not much interest

I have played there several times (I am from Cleveland but visit Columbus for work often). Very nice place. On a weeknight there are $10/$15 table mins, on the weekend they are $25+. Good options for food/drinks, a lot of 'real' slots (as opposed to the lotto terminals I suspect you are seeing in the racinos), and dealers/staff who seem to be friendlier than most places I've visited and played. I also enjoy that the Ohio casinos are smoke-free. What others have said is accurate, e.g. the area it's in is questionable... but the parking is easy (garage attached and free or $5 to valet) and you never really have to be outside the property anyway. Also I believe all the Hollywood's rewards card is tied to the M Resort in LV (or at least, they were tied together at some point) so you can potentially rack up rewards to use on future trips to LV.

I live in Columbus and prefer Hollywood over Eldorado.
    Positives:
    Large, clean and smoke free.
Full selection of tables, slots and VP.(8/5 JOB)
Live bands most Friday and Saturday nights.
    Drinks $4-5 and decent promotions.
    Negatives:
    No on site hotel.
    Nothing decent close by.
    Not unsafe just not nice.
    Tight slots. (aren't they all)

Any specific questions let me know.

    Thanks gang! :)

    That's a big plus, thanks! :)

If it's about the same degree of looseness/tightness as the Hollywood in Harrisburg, I'll probably enjoy it. If it's as tight as the Rivers in Des Plaines I'm sure I'll be b*tching about it.

Hi DMR. I visit Hollywood Columbus 5 times a week or more. Avoid the BJ tables, Columbus players are not known for brilliant play. They recently added a second PAI Gow table for weekend play. Free soft drinks (No Ice Tea) and coffee at self service drink stations. Live Bands on Saturdays, sometimes acts you want to hear. On Saturday Nights it usually gets very busy. They actually had to take out machines due to more people than space compared to their original grand opening machine count. They made up for it by selling drinks and roll out portable bars to move the drinks. Promotions are fun. This month Tier Multiplier on Tuesdays and Friday night drawings are the best.Be sure and swipe your card at a kiosk before playing from 10-10 on Tuesdays this months if you vist. Food: Buffet is good, OH is ok, Take 2 average, Noodle Joint is slightly above average. Poker Room usually has late night high hand type promotions.
