If we were looking to buy in the Las Vegas area to make Nevada our official state of residency (meaning we'd spend at least six months and a day there), which is preferable, Henderson or Summerlin? Convenience, crime, air and other noise, access to outdoor recreation, whatever? Thanks for any input.

All else equal, in the unlikely event I ever live in Las Vegas again, I'd probably choose Summerlin for its proximity to Red Rock NRA, where I like to try to get out for a hike at least once per visit, and I also enjoy gambling at the Rampart and the variety of restaurants west of the 15. Obviously this is personal preference without any one right answer.

I think Henderson is an actual incorporated city whereas Summerlin is a housing and infrastructure development mostly in unincorporated Clark county.

I've been thinking about the same thing and am leaning toward Henderson, primarily because it is a separate city with its own police and fire departments. This is something I've lived up north, living in the city of Milwaukee and several suburbs, and the difference of having a local PD over a big city PD is night and day for quality of life. Fire department is less of an issue, but generally nice to have, especially an ISO class 1 department.

Summerlin is mostly in the City of Las Vegas, rather than the unincorporated part of the county. Summerlin South is county, the rest is city.

Can't go wrong with either imo. New money vs old money. The edge goes to Henderson if you have school aged children and/or frequent California.

I lived in Summerlin and loved it. It's well kept, safe and clean.

We live just north of Summerlin for 5 months of the year. Less congestion than Henderson, everything is usually within a few minutes radius. Great restaurants, too

I would vote for Summerlin:
A bit cooler in the summer due to its elevation
Easy access to roadways - 215, 95 and 15
The LV ballpark and VGK training center

Good to know! I’m doing a spring trip and want pool weather and have been trying to decide between GVR and RR. Sounds like GVR has the best chance of warmer weather.

Many pools are closed until Memorial Day weekend. Call to see what is open when you will be there.

GVR, as many others do, usually begins its pool season in the first half of March weather permitting. This year it was the first week.
