A couple friends and I are having a girls night, making a couple recipes out of a southern cookbook one of them picked up on a last vacation, and of course lots of drinking. I'm in charge of drinks. What do you think?

    Sangria
A tried and true but not southern recipe - with red wine, triple sec, orange juice

I've never tried these but they were suggested on a search for southern cocktails -

    Rum Runner
rum, blackberry liqueur, banana liqueur, oj, pineapple juice, grenadine

    Mississippi bourbon punch
muscadine wine, bourbon, oj, cranberry, lime, lemon-lime soda, club soda

Any other suggestions? I'm fairly adventurous but in general the friends prefer red wine or sweeter cocktails.

I'm not much of a drinker, but I tend to like the tropical drinks like the Piña Colada, Mai Tai, and similar drinks. I also like Hurricanes which a friend introduced me to when we were in New Orleans. It's like drinking fruit punch that's loaded with rum. LOL

I love a good bay breeze, rum with pineapple juice and a splash of cranberry. Malibu is my preferred rum in those, but any light rum would work fine.

ETA - I realize it's not exactly southern, but tasty nonetheless.

Campari and soda with a splash of orange juice? Simple, classic Italian aperitif with a beautiful red orange hue, sweet enough for non drinkers but not too cloying for drinkers. It's one of my favorite drinks when I want something nostalgic and non-challenging.

Sangria is a winner as well, and easy to make in bulk and secretly spike with rum, vodka, or what have you. And easy to consume in bulk as well.

Southern drinks like a mint julep tend to involve bourbon which I also enjoy but may be harder to make in bulk and may be more of an acquired taste.

Party safely and please prevent spread whenever possible. Enjoy.

I love a rum runner and see it's on your list.

    Don't forget the umbrellas.

Yardbird southern restaurant at the Venetian has a delicious drink called Southern Revival. We’ve had it a few times and loved it! The ingredients are shown on the menu but I guess you would have to play around with proportions. Or maybe call there? It’s well worth it. We now get one to go every time we are in Vegas!

My throwback drinks for galpals are fruity, yet lethal.
Alabama Slammer, Amaretto Stone Sour, Tequila Sunrise, Sex On The Beach, Fuzzy Navel, Funky Cold Medina & Blue Bahama.
Takes me back to the 1990's

Sloe Gin, Amaretto, Midori, Blue Caracao, Peach Schnaaps, Malibu Rum....
.......anything with pineapple juice or Southern Comfort always seem to be crowd pleasers.
(They don't seem strong but they sneak up on you.)

I always wanted to have a favorite drink with Chambord or Creme de Cassis.
None of the drink recipes I tried tasted like raspberry or blackberry.....just ended up tasting like cough syrup.

Last 4th of July we did this:

I'd say stock some red wine to fall back into, Sangria sounds great, Lynchburg Lemonade is real easy. I'm not a bartender, but a little float of Grand Marnier on one of those would be something I'd drink.
