Trips to Las Vegas

I tried to join about a year ago and couldn't log in for some reason. I can't believe that was the best name I could come up with. I love reading the trip reports and laugh so hard at some of them. We play quite a bit at the harrahs properties across the river in IA, but love Vegas best of course. I play slots, know they're stupid, maybe you guys will help me get up the nerve to branch out. Going mid Feb. 6 free nights at Ballys.

Welcome, I'm from Omaha (the area, anyway, far southwest exurbs) too! I do the local Horseshoe and Ameristar semi-regularly, but very seldom Harrah's. I typically end up in Las Vegas several times a year, both business and pleasure trips, usually flying Southwest out of OMA.

From a fellow gambling granny and slot player, good choice on your name!
Welcome to VMB and best of luck on your upcoming Vegas trip!

"...somewhere in middle America..."
Welcome!

Well you can count crows there & we can tip cows in Wisconsin lol.

Council Bluffs is our go to weekend road trip for my friends & myself. We stay at Harrahs and play at both. Love Ameristar too - actually like it a tad more than the other two because still on a boat but try to keep our play CET. We do sneak over to Ameristar for a couple hours though. It's a 7 hour drive for us so until roads are clear again we won't have a road trip!

There are stories about cow tipping around here, always centered around a FOAF of so many generations. :) I honestly have no clue whether the practice has been done or not and it's not a real high priority to find out. :)

Currently I enjoy it most at Ameristar and it seems to have the most activity. Horseshoe is a close second and that way I've been able to squeak by the platinum threshold for a couple of years now. I very seldom do Harrah's anymore. Nobody I know goes there, it's TINY compared to the others, and they just don't have many of the machines I like. Locally, there's some speculation that CET wants to either sell it or close it outright and put all of their marbles into Horseshoe. I've asked about this and nobody gives me what I consider a straight answer.

I like Ameristar the best also, but try to play mainly at the harrahs properties to keep my diamond status. Going to try to get the TR credit card befoe vegas next month. If you charge 750 you get 10000 reward credits. Pay for one meal out there.

I don't know if you others have heard this, but Horseshoe in CB will be opening up a race book very soon. FWIH it will be race only, no other sports (LOL, at least for now).

I've heard two different tales as to where it will be located. Not sure which to believe. I guess I could ask a "suit" this weekend. One is that they will re-open an area of the closed-off side of the property south of the poker room. The other is that they will carve out some space on the west side of the casino floor.

They say it will be open in time for the Kentucky Derby. They better get crackin! :)

Welcome to the Board, GamblingGranny!

I don't hear much about Omaha since Peyton Manning retired. :D

Growing up on the farm I can say that walking out to the pasture to "un-tip" a cow was not fun!
Only had to do it once.
And the culprit who did it lost his wallet on the getaway.
The look on his face when my Dad and I showed up on his doorstep with his billfold!

Again, the warmest of welcomes to you! :)

RICHARD

Harrahs is really busy at night. I often have to wait for the machines I like. I was disappointed they have less machines than the boat did -they could have built the casino a bit bigger.

I may be naive, but I would THINK that the average bovine would have the strength, dexterity, and mental capacity to voluntarily stand back up from a recumbent position. Am I correct or full of it here? :)

I could not attest to that, I seldom go there. I do know that it is VERY small!

Here's the story I heard. They tell me (the ubiquitous "they") that the boat was becoming a rust-bucket money pit and when the Iowa Powers That Be relaxed the rules that "civilian" full-service gaming had to be floating, they very quickly scrapped the boat and moved the casino into what was originally their convention and ballroom space, tearing out walls and making the one big (if you could call it that) casino hall. At first the whole thing had only one bar and only one set of restrooms and one of the next things they did was to close off some of the buffet space and install another bar. :)

That's what I've heard, anyway. :)

Welcome! I'm from the Omaha area too! I usually go to Harrah's and Horseshoe on the weekend when I'm able. Vegas trips once or twice a year is the norm for me. I'm staying at Bally's at the end of February.

Hello from Western Nebraska! We don't get to Omaha much. We go to Vegas a few times a year. Welcome to the board. There is a ton of good information for you to soak up. We fly out of Denver, but may go at the end of Feb., too.
