and that was my downfall, and the only really interesting part of my trip last monday through friday the 1st of august.
got on the monday allegiant flight out of montana, for a business trip to the furniture market in las vegas, buying home accessories and decor for our retail store. flight was uneventful, except for the not tiny me sitting next to a former college offensive lineman who had put on more weight since graduation. good thing there was a little girl in the windowseat, madison lowered the average weight in our row to somewhere around 260, but i did not notice if the plane tilted.
luggage came off the carousel quickly, i went out and got on a shuttle, and it started moving quickly, and the hilton was the second stop, so all was smooth so far. short line at checkin, and then it happened...
checkin person informed me, at about 10pm, 11pm on my body clock after a day of work, that they had no clean rooms, but i could either wait three hours for one, OR...they would comp me the first night of my four night stay, give me a 50 dollar coffee shop comp, a spa pass, and i could sleep, and immediately check in to, the living room portion of one of their suites!
i was not about to wait three hours, and suite and free sounded good at the time, so up to the 29th floor i went. entered the foyer, floor to ceiling windows 40 feet wide in front of me, on the right a wet bar and through to walk in closet the size of my living room, on the left a large room with sink and vanity, and through i another good sized space with the toilet and a phone. through to the middle of the suite, a sofa which did not make out into a bed, plus a love seat and chair and coffee table and the tv cabinet, on the other side of the suite a dining room table and four chairs, right by the windows out onto the deck, a desk and chair, AND a cot, about 5'8" long.
i just started laughing, here i was in las vegas in a suite, alone, with a cot to sleep on, called my wife and told here the story, she told me i was getting what i deserved and laughed along with me.
hung up, went down to play a little and wander the hilton casino, had not eaten, so decided to use the comp, however it was just past eleven, and the coffee shop had went to its limited menu, so there was no way to use the comp that night, i just said the hell with it and went to bed. tossing and turning, a little apprehension about a new market to attend the next morning at 6:30, and at that point where a person is too tired to drop off, if you know what i mean. sit up, grab the watch, its 1:30 am. think maybe if i hop in a hot shower it would help...wait, i dont remember seeing a shower??? went exploring, there was no shower or tub! apparently it was in the bedroom? since the spa was closed, and opened again at 7, after i was going to be on the shuttle bus, no shower for me until i got back and got room changed the next afternoon. finally about 2:30made up my mind that i had to get some sleep, but when 6 am, 5 am on my body clock arrived, i was ready to get up.
definitely not the way to start off a business trip, an allnighter without any fun attached, but that the way it was.
probably will post a little more on the trip, but it being solo and business not too much to report meal wise, and no shows, because i had missed the free rod stewart concert that was the kick off for the market by about 3 hours!
