Ok, staying at Wynn free of charge via their app.
I have decided I am going to book another room for 2 nights of our stay somewhere mid strip.
I have one friend joining me and as crazy as it sounds he got it sprung on him that he will need to travel their for work to encore for the first two nights we are already booked at Wynn.
He will have a room at encore for 2 nights Tuesday and Wednesday.
I have a room booked at Wynn Tuesday and checking out on Saturday . He will be coming over to Wynn on Thursday and leaving the same day as me(Saturday)
He has only been to Vegas once before last year and was only there for 36 hours total.
I want to book a room for Thursday and Friday in the middle of the strip, if we end up there great, if we don’t it’s ok too. I like the idea of having a room mid strip to chill out for an hour, be able to have a nice little bar set up in the room etc and not have to worry about getting back to the Wynn..

I am looking at Bally’s, NYNY, Planet Hollywood and possibly Park MGM

    I am not really
Concerned about the cost of the room, all of the above mentioned hotels are about $175 total with taxes and resort fees for two nights
I have already made out with Wynn app and my buddy that is joining me is paying me $400 for the room so I am plus money on that.
Also should mention I have enough gems already for another 4 night stay at Wynn
With current rates and current app conditions.

Am I crazy for doing this and what hotel should I stay at?

any hotel you choose is a downgrade. I would just save the money and spend a few $$ on Uber's to get you back to the Wynn.

Use your offers/points/money how you see fit, of course, but this feels like a waste to me. You're already staying at the best hotels in town. How much utility are you really going to get from having an extra room a mile or two away?

Edit: I suppose I should make a good faith attempt to answer the question you asked. If you're using offers, pick the one with the lowest comp value so it doesn't screw up your club standing too badly. If that's not a concern, pick NYNY or PHo since they're further south and that will give you a wider range in exploring south- and mid-strip. Both of those have numerous solid low-cost food options too, which is helpful if you're planning on getting super inebriated.

Why not just take that $$ and go to a bar/resto/? for drinks and eats. I wouldn't bother with the extra room just for that. To each their own.

I'd pick NYNY if you gamble, I dunno, I like the gambling vibe there, though didn't love staying there. If you are more drinking and wandering, planet hollywood, which has a better vibe, plus Aria, Cosmo, Paris etc are all right there. I hate Park, I wouldn't gamble or party there and I never really get to bally's so I'm no help there.

Why in the world would you waste your time playing the Wynn app on your phone when you plan on paying for a room elsewhere for, really, no good reason?

And maybe I'm misunderstanding something; but you have a comp'd room at Wynn and you are charging your friend $400 to share it?

He earned the comps through the Wynn Slots App, so my guess is in order to get that many comp’d nights he probably spent well over $400 buying coins to earn enough gems to do so. Having played the Wynn App And spent at least $50 so far and not even having enough gems to get 1 free buffet before deciding it was a complete waste of time and money, I don’t want to know how much I would have to spend to get 3 or 4 “comp’d” nights through that app. It’s really not a comp, it’s more like paying in advance in installments.

otherwise though I also think that getting another room in a different hotel is a total waste of money, but then again, if people want to be frivolous with money in Vegas, that’s one of the things many people go to Vegas and do, so I see no real harm other than to the OP’s pocketbook.

Of those, I would lean toward Planet Hollywood. I like the atmosphere in the casino and the rooms are nice. Right across from Cosmo and I like playing VP at Chandelier Bar.

Bally's would be a 2a. Rooms have been recently remodeled and food options are better center Strip (for my budget.) Drawback here is I'm not high on the casino, especially the sauna that is the video poker section,
NYNY would probably be an 2b just because they are down on a part of the Strip that I don't get to that often.

PArk MGM comes in last. Saw the rooms when it was Monte Carlo and really was never impressed. Same goes for the casino.

We don’t even stay at Encore-only Wynn. This makes it easy to choose and we don’t have to ask about other inferior hotels.

Add my vote to staying at Wynn and just using cab, limo ride, Uber or Lyft.

Jeez, what would possess someone to move from Wynn/Encore to Planet Hollywood? (Rhetorical question)

    I completely disagree.

I spent, lifetime total, €30 (about $34) and stayed 3 free nights already. I’m staying 3 nights in September again and could book another 2-3 + some buffets if I’d like to, without spending any further money.

Edit: oh, and to answer the original question: I love having multiple rooms. On my last trip, I stayed 9 nights, but had double rooms on 4 of those nights (First Aria 5 nights, Wynn from day 4 till day 8, Delano last 4 nights). I’ll be overbooking in September again, when I go back. Because Vegas.

I also disagree with the ‘downgrading’ thing. Yes, Wynn had beautiful rooms, but I wouldn’t mind staying at any other property right after. Almost every Vegas resort has something working for it. I’d like to try as many as I can.

I agree with most of the comments above, I'd probably just stay at Wynn and not book a second place as I don't think you will use it as much as you think you might, if at all.
However to give you my thoughts should you decide to execute your original plan... If you pick a place mid-Strip I would pick somewhere with a room that is very easily accessible. Top choice would be Flamingo, then maybe Bally's Jubilee Tower, Paris or Planet Hollywood aren't bad either. I've always considered anything South of Park MGM to be South Strip so if you're going that far down I would choose NYNY.
This is assuming you are not sleeping there, just using it as a place to pop into.

I do have a free room by Wynn app however spent about $100 on the App to so maybe it isn't completely free, more like 90% off. My friend knows exactly what was done and I am also paying for his plane ticket with Rewards miles.

Thanks for the information. I am concerned the Wynnis just too far to casino hop around from home base so why wouldn't it make sense to have another home base. if I don't use it and am out $175 it isn't the end of the world.

you must have been an early adapter of the Wynn slots app or something or I am doing it completely wrong because I can’t even come close to earning enough for a free night and I’ve dumped a decent amount of money into it.

I didn’t. I suggest joining one of the strategy groups - the one Robert Novak runs on Facebook is awesome. You’d be staying there for nearly free in no time!

I forgot whether it was on VMB, or elsewhere I heard it,
I think it was both actually, one was a high roller poker player story and mid drive out of Vegas, he paid for a night, for really < 1 hr, because he had a thing about public toilets.

It's kind of a power play if you book a room just so you can get a private personal shitter.

also you could consider it insurance if there's a chance you end up $hitfaced drunk nearby.

also, if you aren't out gambling, getting comped drinks, you could compare the costs of buying those drinks at a bar.

another thing I've noticed and considered, check the required time for no penalty cancellation.. you could possibly book it, have it in the pocket, make the decision by then, and cancel if it isn't leaning that way.. You def prob wouldn't be able to book it last minute.
