When I was about 8 I came closest to guessing the number of candies in the jar at camp. My mom was not happy with me bringing home 106 pieces of candy.

    A few come to mind.

1983 I won Chicago Cubs tickets from my little league picnic get together. We ended up seeing the Cubs play the Reds in Johnny Bench's last game at Wrigley Field.
In 1986 or 1987 I won a watch from a Twix bar wrapper. It was on my birthday!
IN 1992 I won a hot air balloon ride from picking the right plate of pizza at school lunch one day.

Back around '83, I won a t-shirt from KMEL in San Francisco. The correct answer was "A Night On The Town" by Rod Stewart. Don't remember the question, but I know that the contest started around six in the evening and no winner by eight that night, so I called in.

About 10 years ago I won $10,000 in FreePlay at Mirage from a drawing where you earn tickets based on slot play and drop your tickets in a big plastic bin. When I received the phone call about a month later I thought it was a scam, but the caller who is now my host assured me it was legit! Turned it into a $9500 win the one and only time I ever played a $100 denomination slot.

My oldest daughter was a devoted radio caller inner in the day. She won a Honda Element and drove it for 15 years :D

Won $1,000,000 in the lottery. But,,,,,,, it was an office pool and had to be split with 42 people. by the time they took taxes out we each got $16,666.00. If we would have had the mega ball we would have won 42 million each. oh well. I can still dream even though I am now retired and not in the pool anymore.

When I was in grade school I won a book during National Library Week for a poem I wrote. I was certain I still had that book and knew exactly where it was, but sadly, I cannot find it. Sigh...[IMG]

Funny you mention lotto. I had a co-worker win 1 million off a scratch off 2 weeks ago. Took the lump sum and taxes were taken out, cleared around $550,000 in Florida. Not bad for $5 scratch off. :O

when I was about 10, I won a bike from a local drug store contest. once I thought I won $100 on a scratch off but it turned out to be $500..I won $250 free play on a slot tournament at Harrahs
My husband won $100 in a casino contest in AC - the very next prize was a porsche - he felt like he just missed the best prize... He did win a contest at a car dealer of getting to use a car for a year free - it was one of those contest they mail out keys and if your key fit you won - his key fit. He won $500 at a slot tournament at Monte Carlo .

1979, won on TV POW on the Ray Raynor show in Chicago. Got a bunch of toys for the prize. Was in the running for the highst score of the week until a 5 year old girl beat my score by 1! Would have been a Schwinn bike and a year's supply of 7-UP!

1980, was the 15th caller into WLS for tickets to Aerosmith at the Rosemont Horizon. Problem was that the concert was the next night (a school night) and being only 13, my mom wouldn't let me go! Couldn't even sell the tickets to anyone since they were at Will Call.

1983, had to name the artist and song that this line was from: "Got off a hard night of drinkin'" Called in as fast as I could, and fortunately the caller before me got it wrong. It was Night Ranger, When You Close Your Eyes, and I won $100!!!

    Nothing since! LOL!

Back in 1997, Ralph's supermarkets in L.A. had a contest where, every time you used your club card, your name was automatically entered into their 'Twenty Shopper's In Los Angeles Win' contest (That wasn't what it was called).

Twenty people in Los Angeles would be randomly selected to win $10,000.

I was the first winner and got the call while I was sitting on the hopper

I thank Pabst Blue Ribbon because I would buy a 12er of that about four times a week (along with some bananas, n'shit). The only negative about that is that when I would go in there to legitimately buy some broccoli, corned beef hash or a Tombstone Pizza without the PBR, I had clerks say, "No beer today?"

My son won a trip from AT&T to a BCS bowl game and he chose the Orange Bowl to see the Buckeyes get drilled by Clemson. Round trip airfare from CLE to Miami for two, a room for two nights at a Kimpton Hotel, two tickets to the game, $100 spending money and limo to/from the airport and game. He was 20. I won because he took me.

I won a trip to see my favorite team on the road anywhere in the US from a micro-transaction company associated with ESPN back in 1997 or 1998. If you deposited $10 to use to pay for premium articles on ESPN.COM, you got an entry, and I assume I was the only one to do that.

It was supposed to be all expenses paid, so I booked a trip to San Francisco to see my Brewers play in Oakland. I should have gotten a clue when I had to remind the guy from the travel agency that I was promised $500 in spending money as part of the deal.

Well, the airline tickets arrived, along with rental car vouchers and hotel reservation information.

Got to SFO and the Hertz desk, where they person at the counter looked at the voucher and the reservation and said the vouchers weren't valid. OOF, well I'll deal with the travel agency. Put it on the credit card.

On the hotel. Check in and find out the reservation wasn't pre-paid. Try to call the travel agency, but they are closed. Put that on the credit card.

Thank goodness, I had insisted on getting the spending money.

Rest of the trip was great, but the $500 went to paying my credit card bill. The travel agency stopped taking my calls and the startup that sponsored the contest went bankrupt shortly afterwards. Ironically, I got $9.50 of my $10 from the bankruptcy court, though that wasn't any match for the tax hit from the 1099 for $5k alleged value of the trip.

In Disney World, they use to have a version of Who Wants to be a Millionaire that you could play in the Studios. The audience would all play along and answer the questions (points for the correct answer and bonus points for answering quickly). Whoever had the highest score from the round would come up into the "Hot Seat". Then you would play to win prizes - pins, hats, shirts. The more questions you answered correctly, the more prizes you get. If you make it all the way through the million dollar question, you won a Disney Cruise. I made it to the million dollar question twice, losing once (FYI - "Albany Beef" is sturgeon) and winning once (FYI - Dodge City, Kansas is statistically the windiest city in the United States). Too bad it wasn't the real show for the money..........

I used to be obsessed with entering sweepstakes online. I won nothing more than about $20 for about 4 years, and then won a great series of trips, about 1 per year, for 8-9 years:

Sports Illustrated swimsuit shoot trip to St. John
RadioFM trip to Austin to meet Darius Rucker
    Travel Channel trip to Vancouver/Whistler
Castrol trip to NASCAR race in Homestead
Southwest Airlines trip to Kansas City
    Oregon Travel trip to Portland
    PBR trip to Las Vegas
    Saveur magazine trip to Hawaii
24 roundtrip tickets on Southwest Airlines

Since then, it has been another 4-5 years with no trips or anything too crazy. $1000 cash has been the biggest win of the last 5 years. I consider it part luck, and part just playing the odds by entering thousands of sweepstakes.

    Good luck!

Radio station win for $1000. They sent flyers in the mail with six or seven digits numbers, and you had to listen between certain times twice a day when they called numbers, then you had 60 minutes to call the station. Normally ignored those, happened to be home and decided to listen, and lo and behold they called my number! I do remember playing all those mail quiz games for a bit and doing the PCH nonsense, but never won anything and quit after a few months.

I won a new golf cart from our golf course in a raffle. Tickets were $20 a piece and I bought 3 of them. The whole thing was a fundraiser and I felt bad afterwards since they barely made enough money on the tickets to pay for the cart but oh well!

On a side note, I realized that people get really jealous if you win something worth of value. The number of comments I got about how I didnt deserve to win or the looks people gave me when I told them I won were very surprising. I can't imagine what it's like to win something like the lottery!
