Has anyone tried the $20 trick at Gold Strike Tunica?

I'm checking in on Friday and out Monday morning on a three night comp. Has anyone had any success getting an upgrade there? Thanks in advance for any information.

Used to stay there alot. I think most of the suites are allocated by the hosts, but no idea if the checkin folks can override that. They actually have a little room where Plat/Noir guests can check in. (or at least they did on last visit maybe 2 years ago)

Did you get one of the 875sq ft suites or one of the natchez suites which is similar but larger than a deluxe room?

It was an Oxford non-smoking suite.

They seemed way more impressed with my level of play than any MGM property I have ever been to. I got far more attention with $25 bets than in Vegas or national harbor.

I tried and failed. The front desk clerk just said thanks, put it in her pocket, and put me in a standard room. That's ok though, as their standard rooms are acceptable.

Thanks for the info. For some reason the $20 trick seems to have much less impact down here than in LV. I was checking in to the Beau Rivage a few months ago and the girl behind the counter shared in a mystefied tone that "would you believe that someone tried to bribe me for a better room". I just looked at her and smiled. This was about 6 months after I got two tremendous upgrades to a 1,500 sq foot suite at Paris and a 2,200 sq ft suite at Caesars on the same trip. We had a great story in that we were getting married after 32 years of courtship but still, we got way more than the comped rooms we had booked. I think it is more a case of the desk clerks in non-LV properties are unaware that this is even possible, much less that it is a common thing.

Yeah my guess as to why its less effective is because, as someone noted above, the front desk doesn't really have much discretion to upgrade guests to a suite. Plus, there isn't really a better "view" that constitutes a better room (unlike Vegas where guests often pay more for a strip view).
