The more I read about Harrah’s, the more I like the idea of staying there. We are just staying there because of how close it is to the Venetian where our friends are staying and I’ve never set foot in either place so I’m looking forward to a new experience. Plus, I never found any good video poker machines at any place I went. Nor did I find any Keno at all—and I’m a bigger Keno player than anything else. Clearly I didn’t go into enough CET properties.

Is Harrah’s pretty good about upgrades at Diamond check-in without having to “trick” them? I have a Queen Mardi Gras room but would love to get a Queen room in the Valley tower. Someone was saying here that it’s pretty much an automatic if you’re a Diamond so you’re earning an upgrade just by status alone.

I wouldn't say it's automatic by any means...really its based on availability i think more than anything. I always check the rates for the nights I'm going to be there a day or two before arriving and if the rates are cheap that typically means they are not packed and I've had better luck just making request and getting them. If the rates are high that means rooms are at a premium and your pretty much going to get what you have deserved. I will say I've had some luck with the 20 Trick a few times at Harrahs. I'm actually a really big harrah's fan, but also like Planet Hollywood, but as far as for what I do on my trips Harrahs is more conveniently located for my needs even though I personally like the vibe at PH better.

They will tell you you're being upgraded but in reality the names of some rooms are misleading. They will call one a "Jr Suite" etc. That's BS. Unless they put you in the Valley Tower in a remodeled room, it probably won't actually be a true upgrade. Fight for it on the front end.

The Linq room I had (Basic King with a wonderful view of the parking garage) was MUCH better than the Mardi Gras room I was in while visiting a friend. It was clean, comfortable and quiet, everything the Mardi Gras room was not. If the question was Ph vs Harrah's River Valley I would say its a toss up, but since you can assume its the Mardi Gras room vs PH Hollywood Hip there is absolutely no comparison. The upgraded rooms at Circus Circus are better than what I seen at Harrah's, and that is saying something!

I'm almost 54 (in 9 days) and my husband is 58 and PH is our favourite casino.

You got the quote correct: "mental age group matters a lot here."

I need blackout blinds/curtains when I sleep. The remodeled rooms at PH I've been in keep out hardly any light at all. I'm not trying to impose my preferences onto you, but if you like to sleep in a truly dark room PH might be a problem.
