Depends what you want out of a hotel really.

Location wise they are both great, PH having the added benefit of miracle mile and cosmo right opposite.

Pool wise PH wins, Harrahs pools are terrible and PH isnt amazing but still better.

Room wise they are probably both on par, both newly refurbed.

Casino wise PH is bigger, much bigger. I like both but prefer PH for the bars and variety.

Food options PH wins, theres more selection in house but Harrahs isnt far behind as its so close to everything.

For me, as PH is a personal fave I'd vote Planet Hollywood.

I would agree with everything Welsh Blonde said but would pick Harrahs because (and these reasons may not be important to you)

    1) I almost always have a car, and the valet at Harrahs is much more convenient than PH.
    2) Food wise, PH has more "classy" destinations, but Harrahs has many more "price friendly" choices
    3) Since I have a car and don't drink (alcohol), I can drive ANYWHERE for meals

Planet Hollywood is my favorite casino (note icon), but Harrahs isn't bad. Harrahs has improved their food choices with the new food court they built. PH is next to the Miracle Mile Shops, so you have more food choices there as well. I like the dealers at both places, friendly and professional.

The biggest downer to Harrahs is their pool area; it is awful.

Tough call but I like the vibe in Harrah's casino better than PH.
Rooms and pool at PH are better but not a fan of their casino.

Age group? PH more of a younger, party crowd while Harrah's is an older, laid back crowd. Both have great food options …

mental age group matters a lot here. PH is loud and 'in your face', probably more for the 20-40 yo crowd. Harrah's is fun but laid back, probably for the 50-70 yo crowd. If you plan on using a car at all PH is very car-unfriendly. I stay at Harrah's over PH. My spouse likes Bally's/Paris.

PH for location and the dealers / floor staff. Everyone is always so nice and laid back there.

IMO PH. I like the super tall ceilings for the smoke factor and it is my favorite part of the strip. PH you get Cosmo, Bellagio, Paris. Harrah's you get Mirage, Linq, Caesar's.

Staying at PH for the first time this summer. What makes it car-unfriendly?

I assume they mean because the parking is behind the mall and, thus, a long walk to your room

The parking is far from the hotel but at least it's free! (It is share with the Miracle Miles Shop). Personnaly, It's where I usually stay but I never use a car...

If the decision is based solely on the room, PH would win out, especially if one could get bumped up. Harrah's rooms are just mediocre at best, even if they upgrade you. Otherwise, it's just personal choice and preference. Harrah's is so convenient to the Linq Promenade as well as Venetian shops, and The Forum Shoppes while The Miracle Mile shops are right there at PH. I feel like there are more properties within easy walking distance from Harrah's than PH in reality, however.

It is a huge trek to get to your car at PH. I use my car every day when I'm in LV. I'm constantly running around town and often have to get to my car more than once per day as I try out local restaurants for meals, local casinos for better gaming. After you walk through the casino, you have to walk through their mall to get to the parking garage, but it's not a straight walk, the mall is circular so it is a big half moon walk that just never seems to end. Horrible.

I don't think this person has stayed at Harrah's since they refurbished their rooms. They're very nice now, way nicer than the Linq. I haven't stayed at PH in years so I can't compare but from when I did stay there I would say they were close to par.
