This is my first trip report, so it will not likely measure up to some of the epic reports I have read over the years, but I will give it my best shot. I just got back a couple of hours ago, so at least it will be timely.

Flights

I flew Southwest out of Houston Hobby, and although they are not fancy, they usually are on time, as they were for both flight segments.

Food

I am not a gourmet, and I was by myself this trip so it was generally the buffet, snacks in the Palm room (where I met some very nice locals), and grabbed fast food burgers in a pinch. I know that's a shame with all of the food options that NO has to offer, but I generally don't like to eat in a nice restaurant when its just me.

Entertainment

Mainly the gambling, but I did take off one afternoon to catch a movie (Rogue One - I didn't want to lose my nerd card by ever missing a Star Wars movie LOL). I also made it down to Bourbon Street where I had the obligatory Hurricane at Pat O'Brien's and listened to some live music at a couple of other places.

Gambling

I will avoid leaving my reader in suspense, and confess to the bear mauling me, spitting me out, and as I lay broken and beaten, coming back for a second helping. I played a lot of slots, but my main poison of choice was 10 handed quarter 8/6 Video Poker. Poison is a very apt term for the results. How many times can you be dealt a low pair, draw to it, and hit nothing in 10 handed poker? The question is rhetorical, but I think I did advance research into that topic. I can afford the losses, but I never felt I had a fighting chance. Perhaps I was spoiled in my last Vegas trip, when I had a $1000 hit and a $500 hit within 5 minutes of each other. On this trip, I did end up with a 2500 point day, a 1000 point day and a 500 point day, so with the tier bonuses, I am getting close to making diamond again already in 2017 so that at least is a plus for the General Ledger. And as they said in "Gone with the Wind", "Tomorrow is another day".

Thanks for reading this report, and I hope you found it mildly entertaining.

Scarlett O'Beara: As God is my witness, I'll never be hungry again.

No seriously, man...sorry to hear about the results, but NOLA is a fun and wonderful city. I'm renting out my apartment on Capitol Hill next weekend and using the funds to try and win back the money you gave them, all in the name of VMB camaraderie!

what days where you there, may have seen you... I just left an hour ago, drunk and still havent played yet this year...new orleans is like cherokee, the VP and slots are tight, yet I always seem to know someone who hits them big for $6-$30k+

i play tables and recently its why I havent played yet because winning hasnt been around much..but you should have ventured out more, city has so much to offer

Hey man I'm thinkin' Bacchanal next Thursday plus Blue Nile on Friday for Kermit.

Sorry to hear it. I'll try to get 'em back in two weeks . . . .

havent been to blue nile in years, but bacchanal, there is a reason I havent been there...not a super bad area, but not an area you want to be in if you dont have protection...just saying...might have no issues what so ever but thats a dead zone and high crime area...ive been in that area but driving, no hanging out

I flew in on Sunday, 1/8 and flew out the morning of Thursday, 1/12. I definitely was NOT one of those who hit them big for 6-30K!

i am not one of those big slot winners either, lol...hell the tables havent been great for me either...

and coming on the 8th, you missed out on the 2 day winter we had this year, lol...6th and 7th

Don't worry, I caught the winter in Texas before I flew out when it dropped into the mid 20's.

8/6 Video Poker? Bonus Deluxe? Jacks? Sorta hard to find that paytable...

Sorry you couldnt get anything going.

Sorry to hear that things didn't go well in the gambling dept. We were there for three nights a couple of weeks before Christmas. Had a great time and had one of those 50/50 trips where half of us (The Baboo) won money and half of us did not (me). Actually, I was ahead up until about 3 hours from quitting time on the last night so it was still a small loss. Used my diamond dinner over at Besh and completely enjoyed that. Maybe your next visit will be a bull visit and you can recoup the damage from this visit. Thanks for writing the report.

It was 8/6 Jacks or Better, not Bonus Poker. It was in the main VP area, and as far as I could tell, there were only two machines that offered it. Outside of 9/6, which they only offer at the $100 level (which is way, way too rich for my blood) it is one of the best pay tables, they offer, especially at the quarter level.

Hey @fasbman - still sounds like a fun solo getaway - hopefully next time you out run the bear and rebalance the ledger. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the kind words. I still did have fun, and I will definitely be back. In fact, an old friend called yesterday, who now lives in California, and we talked about meeting up in New Orleans for Super Bowl weekend.

All righty - hope it works out!!
Unless you are lucky enough to have tickets, probably a good idea to stay clear of Houston that weekend anyway..

On this last trip, I mostly played $5 JOB in The Court of Good Fortune or $1 JOB at the Signature Bar right next to the COGF. If my memory is correct, the $5 paytable was 9/5 and the $1 paytable was 8/6. They might have been reversed but I am pretty sure that is correct.

Just booked 3 nights there over Memorial Day weekend. Not the greatest pay tables but still fun. Have 15/9 deuces at about 99% and 9/5 ddb and job so some almost playable games. Just a nice 2 hour flight and great place.............Rick

Thanks for the report, We are arriving Sunday afternoon in NOLA for three nights.
I play slots (mostly reel) but DH will be playing video poker.

We haven't been in a couple of years so looking forward to it,
