With all these great tips, I have no worries about keeping the room cool.
I like Harrahs' casino and love their location but I won't stay there because of the AC thing. I'm with the one (Sorry--went blank on the name and too lazy to hunt back) who likes their room cool and doesn't want to have to wait for the AC to come back on. In fact, I like mine on the cold side and hate being too warm. I have a hard time sleeping when the room is too warm and stuffy.
I've heard of the balloon trick and the various other ones mentioned (I also heard of someone cutting a small trash bag into strips of fringe and placing it on the vent to simulate movement to keep the AC on) which sometimes worked great and sometimes worked at first but then not so much. I've heard that maintenance will come and bypass the motion sensor, although some have said it worked at first but at some point defaulted back to the original.
A lot of people don't seem to mind it much but I know it would annoy the dog snot out of me. I'm on vacation; I shouldn't have to spend my Vegas time fighting the AC. I really wonder if the people who decided to make a hotel in the middle of a freaking desert have motion-based AC were, shall we say, sobriety-challenged.
Yes...I had maintenance override it once and then a day or so later it went back to shutting off again. What a PITA
I heard that the sensor will re set after 24 hrs. At least now I have options to keep the room cool. I like the t-shirt and balloon idea.
Hmmmm ... (wheels turning) I wonder if there's a cheat sheet somewhere telling how to do-it-yerself defeat the sensor?
Mine didn't turn back off but I also told the maintenance guy I would be there 3 days so maybe they can set the length of time to reset? Just guessing
I never tried it the trick, the twitter comment worked much better. I cannot remember the exact room number but I was about center of the hall way when I was over the valet.
Also gives my good cover to bring pantyhose...
no one should have to spend their vacation time trying to outwit the A/C. seriously.
Stayed at Mirage last May. Their rooms are the same. A/C shut off when no movement.
We called maintenance because we didnt know why it was always so warm when we came back to the room. He explained about the sensor.
Told us one trick was to leave the tv on when we were out for the day. It seemed to work!
I always leave the T.V. anyway for safety reasons. Good to know.
we had a room overlooking garage and high roller last week i think floor 23, we didnt hear any noise
Nice to know about the 23rd floor, being quiet. I just confirmed my reservation with Harrah's, and in one week from today (sun.) I will be in Vegas. Yipee!!!
I promise a trip report will follow, once I get home, and details will abound, about room, food, Happy Hours, etc.
12th floor was quite noisy. Could have been time of day, could have been my super sensitive hearing but I was really bothered. I know I would not stay in a Highroller view room again.
Thanks for your input, IWannaBeInVegas. I'll make sure we are not on the 12th floor.
I have requested a quiet room, AWAY from Carnaval Court, so hopefully there won't be any issue's. Hey, my whole 5 nights are comped, so it's a win, all ready. LOL
Now, if the lucky gods are with me, I will get an upgraded room. Keep fingers crossed.
Separate names with a comma.
