Rock legend dies at age 69.
His song, "I'm No Angel" is one of my all time favs!
One of my top 5 bands ever, The Allman Bros Band. I've been mourning the lose with a marathon of Eat a peach, Live at Filmore East, Idlewild South, Brothers and Sisters, Queen of Hearts and any other vinyl, tape or Cd I could find. RIP Greg.
Another gut punch! RIP Gregg Allman.
I believe I stumbled on to an afternoon gig at the Daytona Pier ( FLA ) ---
with the Allman Bros playing - long before they became famous...........never heard the name of the band mentioned ?
I was under age but was a drummer + i followed the music and snuck around
some opened doors and watched a set of bluesy music w/ a skinny blonde guy singing
behind a B 3 organ. I did not hear any slide guitar ( I would have remembered that )
but there were 2 guitar players..........and it was loud...............The blonde organ player/singer was set up on the far left end of the stage.
Even as a young rock n roller - I found this set up unique ? = later in interviews Gregg said he set up on the end to get
away from the guitar volume battles Dickie Betts started by keepin his amp overcranked - too loud
( Many years later I read they played the Daytona Pier often )
I think it was them..................I would have asked them if they played there in March - late sixties ?
I;ve always wondered ?
I read the whole band was sent to rehab as Eat A Peach was exploding on the charts.
They were all strung out on heroin...........sadly.
