Greetings, new guy to the forum. First time in Vegas in 18 years, when the wife and I were married at the Little Church. Prior to that it had been maybe 10 years, I was in a band that played at the old Bourbon Street Casino for a few weeks at a time - this was 1988/89. We also played down in Laughlin at the Riverside, the Colorado Belle and Harrah's Del Rio, as it was called way back then. So, yeah, it's been a while for me.

We're surprised to find ourselves preparing to arrive in Vegas at 8:30AM this coming Monday, and we'll fly out at 8PM on Thursday. We're not even exactly sure how it all worked out, but we're taking our first vacation without the kids since 2009.

We're staying at The Orleans. I've rented a convertible from Thrifty with the expectation of visiting Red Rocks Canyon and maybe a desert drive at sunset, and definitely the Tillman Bridge (but no powerhouse or dam tours for us, we did that in 1999 and I'm sure everything's right where we left it) and enjoying Big B's on the way back.

I *must* hit a Wienerschnitzel for old time's sake. Not sure what to do about food otherwise. I hear the Bacchanal Buffet at Caesars is staggering and pricey, and the The Feast at Red Rock Resort is pretty great too. Buffets are my thing, but the wife has to choose carefully or it's a bit of a waste for her. On my buffets I enjoy great loads of Western food more than fancy stuff. Also Fatburger. Battista's. I think these are all buzzwords and favorites of the forum.

We're booked to see Penn+Teller on Monday evening, found a Travelzoo promo code for balcony seats and the price looked good. I hardly recognized Jillette in his pics after his weight loss. We're also interested in a Cirque show, maybe Kà or Absinthe, but I'm ancy about getting screwed when buying seats so late.

    A few questions perhaps?

I'm trying to learn about discount passes (something like a City Pass) and coupon books as quickly as possible. Is there anything in particular I should be looking for? So far Groupon is about half useless for the things we want to do. We have AAA but don't know that it's good for much other than a few bucks off the room rate.

We might like to ride VooDoo or the rides at the Stratosphere . Are there discounts for those attractions?

Is the validated parking at Binion's as easy as it sounds?

Any tricks to buying tickets to shows without paying full retail, or without being literally robbed by a scalper?

What are the favorite buffets of the forum? Sadly, our schedule won't allow The Sterling.

THANK YOU! I'm sure more questions are percolating ;)

No kids!? Time to go wild, timtrace! :headbang:

I hope you do some serious damage at the buffets (Bellagio is my favorite), take in some fun shows (Penn & Teller still do a great show), and win a ton of money (if you're into gaming, of course)!

Have a great trip and Welcome to the Board! :D

Welcome! Tix 4 Tonite locations along the strip has discounted show tickets. There usually is a discount coupon on their web page to help defray the cost too. Dince the hubby & I do not like the same foods....we usually do the Buffet of Buffets with CET once each trip....good for 24 hours at any of their properties....but there is an up-charge at Caesars. Good luck & have a great time!

@timtrace - Welcome - ummm, Vegas may have changed a bit since your last trip :D. But it's still Vegas!

Agree with @sybgal about last minute show tickets: -Tix4Tonight- several locations on the strip like Fashion Show Mall, Casino Royale, PH, next to MGM, etc. decent prices, lots of different types of shows.

Buffets - Wicked Spoon at Cosmopolitan is a favorite, the buffet at Wynn is really good, I read good things about the buffet at M Resort but haven't tried it. The buffet at Planet Hollywood is popular on here, haven't tried in in awhile.
Aria buffet is another mentioned a lot. Green Valley Ranch and Red Rock both have good buffets if you are out and about.
There is a new In N Out Burger near the Linq.
Also you might like the High Roller at the Linq - groupon often has discounted tickets.

Forgot to mention, lots of strip resorts now charge for parking...look here on VMB forum
"Getting there and getting around" and then look at 'vegas parking fees' for rates.

Hope you and your wife have a great time getting reacquainted with Vegas! :woohoo:

@Geogran In 1999 they were still selling the city as a "family destination." I've heard that's not exactly the situation anymore.

We've got The Feast on our list. And I think we'll splurge for the Bacchanal.

+ @sybgal --- I'll definitely check out Tix4Tonight. When they have a discount on the web page, where does it appear?
