I'm in the second bedroom looking for my shirt.
My two + a half year old son is in the hall.
I hear the bedroom door close.
My son closed it............and locked it from the hall.
    Huh ?
I thought my wife + I childproofed the door locks ?
    Apparently, we missed one.
    So........
I try to talk my son into opening the door.
He is trying......I see the knob turning.
    I stay calm.......speak calmly.......but he's starting to cry.
    15 mins later
I get the two hinge bolts out but can't pull the door off.
I got blisters on my hands, now.
    Luckily..........REAL LUCKY.........the phone was w/ me.
    I call the In Laws..........NO ANSWER !
I'm starting to panic..........because my son has stopped answering me.
I'm on the second floor...........can't climb down.
    So...........I call 911.......calmly explain.
    *
    Fire truck arrives.......along w/ cops.
    *
My wife ( got a hold of her mother = mother has keys ) is at work.
M-I-L walks up to the firemen + cops --
I'm leaning out the window - "Great ! My M-I-L has keys !....open the door, please !"
    NOPE !
M-I-L says "I don't have keys ....your wife borrowed them last week."
****** My wife has misplaced about 5 sets of different keys / I have tried many options *******
    *
I told the firemen "Hey guys......don't break anything down."
They were about to bust the front door.
I told them "I think there is an unlocked window in the next room over."
They came in the second floor window.
    *
My son was quietly watching TV on our bed.
    He seems okay.
    I thanked those RESPONDERS........one and all......over + over !!!
    *
I have blisters all over my hands.
And have neutralized all the locks + knobs.
The bedroom I was in -- had it's lock mechanism facing into the hallway ---
Must have been that way since we moved in.......somehow I overlooked this ?
    *
What a way to start my day !
My wife was more traumatized than me ---
    And I can't believe I couldn't get that door off ?

Glad it worked out, but I can't believe you never noticed the lock was on the outside of the door.

Dont feel bad something similar happened to me a few years back. My son was staying over with a g/f and we went out and told them to lock up the doors when they leave.
We just used the garage door openers and went into the house that way. I never locked the door from the laundry room to the garage ,but the kids did when they left.
OF course neither one of us had a house key and I left the door from the garage keys hanging inside. Dumb!!
So I ran up the street to get a neighbor who was a "city firefighter" ,I figured if anybody knew how to break thru this lock it was him. We tryed every trick he knew ,the credit card and a few other things.
So, rather than call a locksmith, mucho expensive on a sunday ,I grabbed a sledge and a pry bar and bashed the lock off. Luckily it was a metal covered door so I could bang the metal back into place when I replaced the lock set. Like I said really DUMB.

    Glad it ended well.

You guys needed a burglar. :rolleyes2:

Just curious. Does the fire department bill you for this? I doubt it because a child was involved. I remember hearing a TV personality say she called the FD when she was locked out of the house.

    Bill me ?
The cop took down my name + phone #
    That was it.
I'd be shocked if I was billed ?........it was an emergency.

It's been a long day..........I called my wife a few minutes ago --
    I said "I'm pooped. I guess, I got a little more stressed than I thought ?"

I think your wife needs to work on her key loss problem as who knows where the missing ones are.

Hey have you ever thought of getting a keyless entry combination type lock?
I have one for the outside of my garage door as well as the laundry room door.
