    My Trip Report

Thanks to everyone on this board - once again, a great stay downtown. We took advantage of a US Air companion ticket and $69/night at GN to make it a very affordable, 4 night, vacation. Stayed at GN three years ago and were very impressed with the new pool this trip! Very cool swiming around the tank looking right in the eye of a shark. Also loved the padded lounge chairs and the new hot tub area. We are so comfortable at GN I can't imagine we'd ever go back to the strip. The Duece makes the trip to the strip very affordable, and convenient, when we decided to go up there. Saw two shows - The Amazing Jonathan, who we had seen before and enjoyed his show again - yes, some of it is very silly...but it's funny. Then we hit Tickets4Tonite and picked up half price Howie Mandel tickets. We really enjoyed his show too. It's like you're at a cocktail party with him and he's talking with people and making jokes. We had a good time. He's at the MGM and we arrived early enough to pick up our tickets and grab dinner. We ate at Emeril's New Orleans Fish House based on recommendations on this board. It was excellent! We sat at the bar (we had called earlier for a rez but couldn't get one until late so took a chance we could sit at the bar, worked out) and had awesome martinis, followed by amazing apps (I had the sweet potato soup, my husband had grilled Maine scallops with foie gras sauce). Then on to halibut and salmon entrees. Just wonderful and the service was outstanding. Oh ya, had to have a slice of bannana cream pie - to die for!!!! Thanks again for that tip! Some other highlights of the trip - won $265 in the Texas Tina penny slot at the GN, then $222 at a penny slot at the Golden Gate; ate sushi and pizza along with great micro brew at the 777 in Main Street Station; tried to go to Triple George but they're closed Monday night and we never got back there; had a great breakfast buffet at Binions for $5.99; also a good breakfast buffet at GN, two for $8.99 with a fun book coupon; ate .99 hot dogs at Mermaids; had margs at Jimmy Buffet's place at the Flamingo - sat on the roof and checked out the strip, very fun; stopped at Winn for a drink and a look around, lovely but our friends found the BJ table minimums far too high for their blood so we didn't gamble there. Weather was very cool the first day but warmed up and was perfect after that. We had a great time and can't wait to go back again. Thanks for all the great tips - it really made our stay more enjoyable.

Thanks for the report. Nice to hear you had a couple of slot wins. Thanks for the info on Howie Mandel. I was wondering how his show is.

Nice TR and great score on the Penny slots:thumbsup: We also like Emerils and we'll eat at the bar if there's an opening.
