Trips to Las Vegas

I do not think I have asked this but we have reservations for February - I was going alone but now going with a good friend.
I think I read Carson Towers are far.
Is this the area you would book for yourself or is there another Golden Nugget area you prefer over this with a comparable room rate?

It's a few minutes walk down to the casino from the Carson Tower, but not anything crazy.

If you want to be really close to the Casino/Fremont, then the Gold Tower would be the best one to book.

You will pay more for the convenience of being closer to the casino, pool, restaurants and Fremont Street.

How many times per day will you be going back to the room?

Probably once during the daytime, so we should be good!

We will probably return at noon and then again for the night - so twice. The difference when I called was 50.00, which will keep us where we are! Thanks everyone.
Maybe we will try the 20.00 sandwich.

~shrug~
Carson Tower is the lowest priced room they have, but the walk is easily the longest in downtown from room-to-casino floor.
In a way, it's just another way that the Nugget is the most "strip-like" of all of the downtown properties! ;)

It's not how many times that you will be going back to the room... It's ALL about the last drunken stagger/wobble/semi-coherent trip back to the room that some of us have taken late in the evening (or day, or morning!) Not that I have ever had this problem?

My advice... tip or pay more... it just might be worth it?

We don't drink so don't think that is a problem. I guess we will find out if the walk is worth not having blaring light from the glass door in the bathroom early in the morning or not. Will let you know the outcome!

I have read most of the $20 trick boards on the web and I can tell you from those and my own experience your chances of it working at GN are slim and none. The desk workers will tell you they can lose their job for it at GN.

I will say make sure at check in to ask for coupons. They hooked us and anyone that asked up with half priced buffet, half off drinks, free slot pull, and a few other things. If you don't ask they won't offer though!

+1. Swing is correct on both counts. $20 trick is rarely successful at the GN for the reason he stated.

As for coupons, absolutely. They are very generous with their coupons at the front desk. Just ask. If you go solo you can even use the 2 for 1 buffet coupon twice by yourself. Just present it at the buffet and they'll give you a voucher for a freebie second buffet. I've done this multiple times at the breakfast buffet.

Agree with those above about the coupons. Even if I'd booked through a third party and wasn't technically entitled to them, I've never been denied them when I asked.

As for the $20 trick, even though I knew it rarely worked at the Nugget I tried it last December out of frustration. We checked in, went to our room only to find out we'd be staring at a concrete wall ten feet from our window for four days. I went back and asked the same guy if we could have something different. He gave us the farthest room on the third floor of the Carson tower, directly above the street and across from the jail I went back and due to the long line was directed to go check in at the Rush tower. I slipped the guy $20 and explained that this was my third attempt at getting a room on the quiet side of the Carson tower that didn't view a wall. He took the $20 and gave us a room on the north side (quiet side) of the Carson tower on the top floor. Also gave us extra coupons and a VIP pass to use to go to the front of lines. Came in handy at the buffet in the mornings. I was happy with the result.

Wow! Good for you! We wont need to upgrade as it's comped, had a choice of renovated rooms in Carson or Gold tower. We aren't in the room all that much, but I do like to sleep later than my husband.
