    My Trip Report

0E710796-B9F4-46E0-A996-D38447BACD44.png As I sit here some 36000 feet above Chicago I find myself flush with cash and filled with anticipation for a trip long overdue.

Between 2007 and 2014 I went to Vegas 6 times generally an annual pilgrimage during spring break to escape the doldrums of being a high school educator.

However as my late 20s left me behind and my mid 30s weighed down on my shoulders I found myself vegasless for quite some time. Part of it was financial. Part just life. Normal travel companions have moved on to Disney vacations and short cruises. Etc

So it is with great happiness that I write this intro to my seventh excursion to the valley of sin.

My travel companion this trip is Ryan. We’ve been there together twice before but in our twenties. We are both a bit older and wiser but just as debauched as always. He too is a teacher, so this is our escape from 14 year olds

    Details are as follows:

Southwest Norfolk to Baltimore to LAS

Two nights at the golden nugget and three at NYNY. We are renting a car one day, a first. Picking up at Four Wueens and returning it to NYNY. It will serve as or cab for 80 bucks with an excursion to Red Rock canyon and resort, maybe m resort and boulder highway.

We aren’t big food people. Correction I am a huge person at 320 pounds so I eat tons of food but not much of our trip is centered around it. We will be harnessing our inner carnivore at Gallagher’s at some point.

My daily gambling budget is around 200 a day. I have additional funds if need be but we are low rollers when gambling for sure. Mostly craps and vp and degenerate slots when hammered

Generally speaking this trip is much needed. I have had some mental health issues with anxiety (which doesn’t help with flying as I have found) so a week away from all of it should be fantastic. I will do my best to update. I’m sure this will be semi live and semi coherent.

We land in just over 3 hours. I cannot fucking wait.

The nose just dipped and we’ve begun our decent into Las Vegas and general debauchery. My foot is asleep and I’m concerned I’ll fall getting up but otherwise excited

    Night one recap

After perhaps the slowest cab driver ever we made it downtown. The smell of stripper sweat still permeates the air on the smoldering ashes of the Gulch. I do authentically miss mermaids.

We immediately attached the liquor. You cannot let the liquor control you. You are the liquor. (Jim Lehey)

At any rate, a couple 24s of Miller lite were purchased and we ran over to the D to play the new horse game deal. A couple free Coronas one one nice 25 dollar hit kept me even for the session. Ryan lost a 20 spot.

We wandered around downtown until we found ourselves at the el Cortez. I miss the old days where you could always meet a homeless person at the roulette table betting the dollar minimum. Sadly not the case, today the limit was two bucks and the place didn’t remotely smell like weed or death. Regardless, I won a quick forty playing craps when a shooter hit about 23 10s in a row and I finally bet it a couple times. Ryan hit a bonus for 70 bucks on a random slot. A couple drinks were had and the night was shaping up well. We did have a slice at Evel Pie. I have heard both wonderful and horrific things about it. I found the atmosphere ******y. trying to be grimey doesn’t make you a cool dive. The bull horn is dumb. The pie, quite tasty.

We meandered down to the nugget where we bought in for a hundred each in let it ride with the three card bonus bet. We mostly tread water for a couple hours and drank our asses off. Crown royal. Gin and tonic. Corona. May have been a cosmo in there I dunno. I wound up down 50 and Ryan up about the same amount.

It is at this point that we met our first legend of the trip. I forget his name, but let’s call him Ronnie. Ronnie had a system. For bubble craps. We were betting 3 dollar pass line and double odds and mostly winning but Ronnie knew just when to hit that button and had no issue yelling at you when you didn’t. Keep in mind, Ronnie isn’t betting a cent. He’s broke. Needs to get paid but he won 490 bucks on this machine last night but his old lady needed the cash.

At any rate, Ronnie was annoying. It was five am and we needed food. A jaunt over to mickey ds found us some delicious breakfast like food and we finally crashed around 530. Which is 830 east coast time where we began our day

    Gambling: I’m minus five bucks

Ryan is up 50 or so.

With your photo, I'm reading this trip report in a DeNiro voice in my head haha Gotta hate those players that hover over the bubble craps machine spouting off like that

Looks like day one was a success and you both preserved your bankroll to add to the other days of your trip. Great start!!!

LOL. I was thinking the same thing, kind of like the narration in "Casino".

    Day two recap

Day two started a bit slowly. Shitty sleep and massive alcohol intake the previous night left us weak and weary. A quick trip to Starbucks left us in the sports book at the nug. We both placed a bet on the national championship and lost. I placed a four game baseball parlay that later paid off for 95 bucks on a 10 dollar bet which was amazing.

We meandered through the experience to plaza for no real reason other than something to do. We had a couple slices of pizza (what’s that place called? Pop up pizza?)

We both felt lousy so we sorta just rambled along. I planned to play the 3pm poker tourney at the nugget but it ended up having a whopping 3 registrants so I bailed and out that 50 in a slot that paid me off with nearly a 400 dollar hit. Fortuitous for sure.

We mostly vegged here and there before a trip to el co. The cosmopolitan limits of Sunday night were back down to the normal dollar limit and we actually made a small profit. I then went and played a random slot and won 50 bucks as well so el co netted about a 75 dollar win for me. Ryan was having a slightly worse day gambling down a couple hundred bucks for the trip but a pilgrimage to the new Amsterdam dispensary cheered him up greatly.

We had dinner at 777 brewpub. This is a tradition and it was awesome as always. We found the sampler beers less tasty than I remember but we still enjoyed our meals and time there and it’s a damn good deal.

After 777 we found ourselves back at the nugget. It was somewhere around 11 pm and we popped back down on the bubble craps. We both found this to be profitable as our 40 dollar buy ins swelled to around 120 for me and 100 for Ryan. With the wealth of dozens of new dollars we hit a few slots here and there with no big wins or losses. With the 530 am bedtime the previous night we were feeling a little tired and drunk. We wound up in the room shortly after 1am with some Gatorade and munchies.
