They're working quickly. Will they make the opening deadline?[IMG]

Maybe the inside is complete, and they're just working on the outside?

As of 1:30 this afternoon the Golden Gate was still closed despite the signs at each entrance that say they will be open this morning 8/25. Security guard said they should be open in a few hours.

They opened at 5pm... There has been some talk of a water pipe breaking during the work...

Went there last night. Remainder of casino looked the same. It really didn't feel like much overall difference. The new area is bright and shiny. Slots only. Most of them out of order last night.

They had to have done something to the old part because it was empty and torn up when we looked in it on Wednesday night. Probably new carpet?

You're probably right. Some rehab, but looked very similar to me.

Or they had to tear up the carpet to re-run power/networking? Don't know why they wouldn't have that in the ceiling, but who knows with that old of a building.

They recently tore up and replaced the floors at The D to install new wiring in preparation for a unified club card across all the Stevens properties, so my guess is that the work that was done in the "old" section of GG was just that -- behind the scenes improvements, but nothing really noticeable to customers. (Yet)

I was really hoping they'd be doing something with the DuPars space as part of this, or at least be including the return of a snack bar for the shrimp cocktail. It does look like they've moved the Club 1906 desk from near the hotel lobby to the new expansion, based on photos I've seen.

Yeah, I keep hoping for another 24/7 cafe. But, who knows.
And, it would be a good move to move the club desk from that dark corner. Get it closer to the people coming in.

Why did DuPars close? And do you think they've done anything to lower the volume of the music in the rehab, especially near the craps tables? I'd play there a lot more if it wasn't so damned loud. Add the noise to the long tables, and half of my bets need to be repeated two or three times before they get placed correctly.

We walked through a couple weeks ago. The new section has a large entrance way mostly taken up by 5 large machines and their tv towers. There are some slots set up on the dias behind them. The older section doesn't look much different although it is a lot more spacious than it used to be. They have moved many of the slot machines that used to be in front of the washrooms and added more blackjack tables. It seemed to me that there was more room to mingle near the craps table. I don't know that they added more slot machines, it appears they just moved them around a bit to create more space to mingle. I like it.

I'm surprised the old DuPars space didn't reopen when the rest of the casino was refurbished. Perhaps continuing legal difficulties between the restaurant and the casino means they can't just print some new menus and reopen under a different name.

I like the TV towers they put in the Golden Gate. However, how the hell are you supposed to even watch them unless you're a giraffe. If there was a second floor or more wide open area where you were far enough back to tilt your neck then Ok.
