Trips to Las Vegas

Just back from the annual trip out there and, prior to the trip, nobody raved about the craps tables at Golden Gate more than me and my buddies - fun dealers, always a good vibe - until this past weekend...

So we head Downtown because Golden Gate has been our spot for the last 6-7 years and get on the craps table. The first thing I notice is new felt (OK, probably overdue) and that they added the Big 6 and Big 8 sucker bets. No big deal, as I know not to play them. So my buddy drops his usual $25 on the field and in comes a 12...and only pays double.

WTF? The dealer says they changed felts about 2 months ago and, yes, they switched to the more house friendly "12 only pays double" payouts. To boot, the dealers we really quiet and uptight - I toss in my hard ways bets and of course they splash a little bit, and the dealer just looks at me and says "just set them down next time."

Sorry, Golden Gate is now off my list as a place to gamble - will stick with Binions for craps downtown.

Yeah, I agree. In November I've noticed the all, tall, small bet was short paid also. Instead of 175/1, 35/1 they were I believe 170/1, 30/1. That was at both GG and The D.

While I understand someone must pay for all the upgrades degrading pay tables will send me to better paying venues.

Will 6/5 be next? Time will tell.

Most places except CET(for now) have gone to new payout on ATS bet

I didn't play blackjack there, but it it seemed like all their tables had the Super 4 signs - I didn't take the time to look at the particulars, but looked like just additional sucker bets added to the table - which I actually prefer as long as they keep the rest of the payouts the way they should be. It's the same reason I don't care about the Big 6 and Big 8 - they are there for suckers, but don't short me on the Field 12.

Sad to hear. I liked GG but had a bad experience last time. Was hoping it was a one off and was going to give them another chance next week.

They ADDED Big 6/8? That's crazy. I haven't seen those on a table in a long time?

Someone probably asked for it. And they needed new felt anyway.

I'll never understand how big 6 or big 8 is even allowed to be on a craps table. Is it just for people who want to save the extra 2 bucks and for example on a $10 minimum table bet a $10 6 or 8 for even money instead of placing it for $12?

MSS used to have it on their layout. When I make a dollar bet for the crew, I always toss a buck on each of those numbers for them. They are only getting even money on a dollar anyway, so why not give them their own special spot on the table? (My thinking.....not the casino's)

Well, after I place the bet, the dice go flying, and a number comes up. (Not the 6/8) The dealer scoops up the dollars. I said, "Hold on! Those bets didn't lose." Dealer says, "It's a one roll wager". I said where in the world is that a one roll wager, and the box says, "It's a one wager roll everywhere."

I just laughed, and made no more bets for the dealers. I can't imagine what the odds are against the player with "those rules"!

I play craps. I've never got the love for GG. The table is too long for one. Two, where I play let's me but the four and ten for free, and also let's me lay 20X, when the. House rule is 10X. I'm not a large player by any definition, but they got the pit bosses approval, and they did it. Shows me they recognize who gambles seriously, and who doesn't.

I never got the sense GG was good for craps players.

I stopped going there years ago. Every time table would get on a roll after 10pm. They would shut down the table. And say end of Shift.

I've never had any issues with them. They even tossed a guy who got "handsy" with another player. Lady told him not to touch her, and the PB told him the same. Next time he did it, they told him to leave.
Them going down to 2x on 12 isn't a big deal for me. I don't play the field that often. And, yeah, they've needed new felt for a while. Most of the time they're a good group of people to play with. I'll have to check them out again next trip.

Wait, you can't freely molest nearby women when throwing the bones? Jeez, this place is a little too uptight for me. I'll take my business elsewhere!

Well, the guy was trashed, and it was about 10am. I was kind of shocked he could even stand. Just glad they look after the other players.

Many years ago, (at the Stardust, I think), a croupier told me just to bet the 'Big 6/8' with my $6 bets... that it would be easier.
I asked, "Does it pay the same as the place bets?" - he said, "Yeah - it's the same bet."

So, I did it ...once! When I got paid $6 instead of $7, I asked again, and then they told me it was an even money bet.
So - I went back to my place bets.
By the way - it was not a "one roll bet", so that part is utter nonsense. That MSS dealer must have been a rookie or something.

Anyone...& I mean anyone who ever plays craps, needs to understand the truly negative impact of this bet.
Bet $25 on the Big 6 & $25 on the Big 8? You win $25 anytime one of them hits.
Bet $24, placing the 6 and $24 placing the 8, you win $28 anytime one of them hits.
That's a $4 swing... 4/25*100 = 16%
Or, to look at it another way... out of 11 tries, you will lose 6 and win 5.
On the Big 6/8, that's $550 bet, $300 lost and $250 won. HA of 9.09% Lose $50
On place bets, that's $528 bet, $288 lost and $280 won. HA of 1.52% Lose $8
