Depending the day, I keep going back and forth on which itinerary I want. Doing 4 nights - arrive Friday leave Tuesday 10/15-10/19. I have 3 nights comped at GG (standard 1 bed) or 2 nights comped at the D. I also have $100 voucher for 4Qs from the app game. My choices are:

    1) 1st 3 nights at the GG then 4Qs S Tower ($109 for Monday night before applying voucher)
    2) 1st 2 nights at the D then 2 nights at 4Qs S Tower ($109/night before applying voucher)
    3) 1st 2 nights at the GG then 2 nights at 4Qs S Tower ($109/night before applying voucher)

I have never stayed at the GG, but heard stories about the comped rooms being comically small (like 100 sqft). This does not really bother me per se. All I really want/need is a clean bed, toilet and shower. I'm a downtown guy, but the only downtown hotels I have stayed in are the D and Plaza. So a part of me wants to try something different.

80% of my gambling is on VP with BP my game of choice. I sprinkle in some BJ, Craps, sports betting, and a couple of sessions of live poker. I like to play where I stay. So I've done multiple hours at the Vue Bar. I think the GG BP machines are linked to Vue Bar for the progressives. So that is a plus.

Regarding 4Qs, I want to expand my horizons and get on their radar. I know their players club is very generous. But they do not have many BP machines. I would probably grind JOB, but will partake in DB or DDB at the bar.

#1 would be the cheapest option. #2 best rooms option. #3 most expensive/try something new and better room.

    Opinions?

IMHO, unless you're getting a suite, stay away from GG in the summer. NO A/C!!!

    That leaves option #2.

I tend to think about moving from a decent option to better options during our stay. Upgrades are great. Downgrades suck - especially if you already lost your entire bankroll the first day or two. (not that it ever happened to anyone I know or anyone on this board)

How much VP are you planning at 4Q? Previous threads indicate that you can get a room comped on the backend for 800 points per day.

Yea I've read that. I looked at coin in over the last couple trips and I do about $4K/day coin in. So I might get half a room comped per day? Assuming they can do partial comps?

Since you are going in October (not the summer), don't immediately discard option#1 because of a/c. I stayed at GG for a late October, 2019 trip and it wasn't an issue. It depends if you want to try something new (when it is free) and have an extra $123 (13% tax on 4Q) in your bankroll. Room is definitely small at GG, but fine for a solo traveler who just sleeps and showers (there also is a flat screen TV on the dresser). If it is just some place to sleep, remember: All hotel rooms look the same in the dark.

"In most years, Las Vegas averages a daily maximum temperature for October that's between 77 and 84 degrees Fahrenheit (25 to 29 degrees Celsius). The minimum temperature usually falls between 56 and 61 °F (13 to 16 °C). The days at Las Vegas cool down rapidly during October."

For me, that's "too hot". I stayed there in December and it was just right, except for the fact that my window looked out on to the Slotzilla endpoint.

Since I was there the last week of October, the daily high would have been at the low end and I was in the room after 2:00 a.m. to sleep so the temperature would have already cooled off rapidly. I can't say what the exact effect of being there 2 weeks earlier would be. I did ask for a room away from Fremont Street to avoid noise from crowd below.

At $4kc/i/day, you're looking at between 250 and 500 points per day depending on the VP you are playing. Your earned comps would be $12.50 - $25/day which can be applied to the room. I doubt they would do a partial room comp, but it never hurts to ask.

Are you saying NO a/c, or just crappy A/C?

At 500 points a day I was able to get Casino Rate ($35/weekday night, $80/weekend night) during my first trip to QQQQ - just ask to talk to a host toward the end of your stay :)

I had to look up "swamp cooler" to try to understand what @DaiLun was warning about. I agree with him that the D is the no-brainer option.

Yes, I own a swamp cooler, but it's effectiveness decreases once the temperature is 85 or above, then it's just spitting hot, moist air.

I just spent <$400 on a room air conditioner and will be installing it this weekend. No use running the central air when activity is mostly confined to two small rooms.

I would go with option 1 as I am cheap but i like all your options. I have stayed at all the places you are considering. Since you have already done some research on the gg rooms and have seen what posters have said about the room, you should be fine with the room since you haven’t crossed it off room option list yet. If you get there and don’t want to stay there after first night, maybe see if you can get into 4queens early if its worth the money to you to get out of the gg room. I didn’t mind the room though.

While the AC issue is legit…I would say a bigger consideration would be sound/noise. A large number of the comp rooms at GG face Fremont Street, which means you will hear and live every second of the Fremont Experience.

The rooms I am talking about are “vintage”…better described as old. The bathrooms are incredibly small and the windows…well…I am not sure a windowless room would be any louder!

Bottom line…it’s all about expectations. GG offers me comp rooms on my pathetic gambling budget and I will continue to stay there and not complain one bit…I love the GG,

    Mike

Well looks like no standard rooms available Golden Gate for my dates. Same situation at the D. But was offered a premium corner king for $40/nt with no resort fee. So I’ll be taking that for 10/15 & 10/16.
