I think you need to rethink your plan. If going on NYE i always recommend to stay at the hotel you are planning on spending your time at. The casinos will start checking room keys and close of the casinos for non hotel guest after a certain hour. If you are planning on spending time at a casino property make sure you show up before they start checking keys.

For the cab ride, being about 14 miles from The Strip, you would be looking at around $50 each way as a good estimate, plus tip.

A few things about New Years Eve and the hotels on The Strip:

    - Most hotels will be closing their parking structures around 1-3PM. So if you want to get somewhere by driving it will get harder and harder as the day goes on to find a place to park your car.

    - The Strip closes to vehicle traffic around 5-6PM. If you want to get from one side to the other after that you are pretty much going to have to walk or take a taxi that'll take a loooooooooong way around the road closures.

    - The hotels/casinos start closing themselves to the public around 8-9PM. If you have a room key security will let you in, but otherwise if its just your favorite place to hang out and you want to spend NYE there then you should make sure you are there before then.

    - After about 9-10PM it is pretty much impossible to move anywhere on The Strip. You will pretty much need to be where you want to be by that time because even just walking across the street can take forever to work your way through the crowd

If there is somewhere you really want to be then I would suggest making sure that you are there by 6-7PM and if its quite a ways away you should aim for an early time to take in to account extra distance.

This is a link to an interesting story in the Review-Journal about New Year's Eve closures. It mentions the Strip closure and Downtown closures as well as the expectations of getting a cab that night.

If true, I found it interesting that they used to offer free cab rides on NYE and the reason they no longer do. We tourists are our own worst enemy.

"Las Vegas’ taxi industry used to offer free rides on New Year’s Eve, but officials say that won’t be the case for most companies this year because riders kept leaving behind evidence of their overindulgence that had to be cleaned off the cab seats."
