I just checked from Austin to Vegas flights as low as $34-$59.

We are taking a late flight on Fri. Jan 13 -- it actually meets our needs. My son and his fiance will have time to get off work. Drop my Grandson off at his mother's. The fiance lives in San Antonio and my son lives in Kerrville and we are in Fredericksburg. So we will all eventually meet here in the afternoon and drive to Austin. The late night flight was cheap and timing wise is perfect.

Ya, the cheap flight departing SLC is the red eye but I figure for $24 OW is too good to pass up. The other negatives are the $35 carry on / $30 checked bag charges, the optional extra charge for the more desirable seat locations etc. I'll be taking the trek this Sunday and the charge for my return flight is $34 OW so it'll cost me $58 round trip, less than the cost of gas if I drove my car.

If you can get all your stuff in a bag under the seat you don't have to pay any fees I know I could get 3 nights in a small bag. I use packing cubes which really helps. If it is a long never trip a checked bag for $25 would be the next step.

I saw comments where people were wearing jackets and layering clothing, and putting socks and underwear in their pockets to make more room packing. I'm not that cheap --yet.

Be advised any of you Norcal'ers, It looks like Frontier's dropping the SFO-Vegas route sometime in the new year. I was contacted by them and was given a full refund for my fare AND a $100 travel credit because the early March flight I booked has been cancelled. A look at the calendar shows no flights available.

Now I need to figure out somewhere to go with that voucher that isn't Vegas :/
