We stayed at the Fremont for the first time downtown for this trip. We got in around 5pm Thursday, picked up the rental and headed downtown. We parked in the Main Street Station lot rather than valet the car at the Fremont. Overall I was not expecting the Fremont to be that nice and it wasn't. The room was alright, pretty worn though. My big complaint was that all the walls in the bathroom were filthy and needed wiped down bad. We had two other couples with us and all the rooms were dirty in the bathroom. I probably will not stay here again unless its free. Other than that the staff was nice and check in was fast. We usually stay at the D so I guess that is the kind of expectations I had.
Night #1:
Went and grabbed some McDonalds at the D, then it was time for some drinks. I went to the Longbar at the D for a rum and coke and Derek Stevens was just chilling at the end smoking a cigar and chatting with people. I thought it was awesome he was just hanging out with the regular folks. The people who came with me were all new to downtown so we did some walking around. After that it was time for some gambling!! I went to Main Street Station and playing some JOB for awhile and stayed even. I played some dollar slots and quick hits for an hour or two and only lost 30 bucks. I was worn out from jet lag and hit the bed around 11 PM.
Day #2:
The newbies wanted to see the strip so we took the Deuce and got off at Treasure Island. We walked down to Caesar's Palace and eventually played some craps at the Flamingo. The strip is not my cup of tea, too overpriced IMO and bad gambling odds. After walking around for a few hours, the wife and I headed back to get some lunch. We went to the Chicago Brewing Company in the Four Queens and it was delicious as usual. We got the Chicago Deep Dish and some giant wings and it ended up being like 25 bucks. Great Value! We gambled some at the Fremont and I started my addiction with the Wheel of Fortune dollar machine. I got 5 wheel spins in about 10 minutes! Its amazing how fast the machine sucks the money back in though. This was the first day we were going out to the Duel in the Desert at the Las Vegas Motorspeedway Dirt Track. The track was very nice but for a big race it seemed kind of plain. We stayed for 5-6 hours then headed back as it was just heat races.
Day #3:
We decided to do some sight seeing the next day. We went to Count's Kustoms for the free tour. It was in a pretty small hidden location, but I really enjoyed it. We then went to the Count's Vamp'd bar which was like 10 minutes away. We sat at the bar and got great service. The food was excellent and got a few free (VERY STRONG) shots. Rum and coke was 9 bucks though a piece. After that we headed to the race track for the last chance qualifiers and feature events. There was some good racing and left around 10 PM.
Day #4:
I always love NFL sundays in Vegas. We went and ate Du-Par's in the Golden Gate. That place is always excellent. We did some gambling at the Fremont for a few hours, then headed out to do some shopping at the outlet mall nearby. Afterwards my wife wanted to watch the runners in the Rock n Roll marathon. We headed down by the El Cortez and hung out for awhile. I had never been in the El Cortez and really liked what I saw. I played the Silver Strike machine and won the silver token on my first pull. Pretty Awesome! After that we ate at Pizza Rock and headed to the Plaza. I bought a Plaza polo and had some drinks listening to the band that was playing next to the bar. Wife won some money on craps and had a great time. I love the Plaza Casino, but scared to actually stay there.
Day #5:
This was a long day, as were flying out at midnight. We got up and checked out ( got 1 night comped after asking the check out associate to call a host). We went back to Count's Kustoms and we were able to meet Rock'n-Roli from the show. We then headed to my current favorite place - the Orleans! I really need to stay here sometime as I love the atmosphere and cheap drinks. I played a few machines lost some money then gained it all back on another Wheel of Fortune dollar machine! One of my friends wanted Hooters, so we headed to the Hooters Hotel & Casino. I thought this place was alright and as a big NASCAR fan, I appreciated the Alan Kulwicki race car display. The Hooters restaurant is overpriced and not so good though. We walked around the strip and watched the Bellagio water show. Nothing else too exciting. This trip ended too fast. Next time I plan on just going with me and my friend as it was not fun trying to decide what 6 people want to do all the time.
I will be back in March and will be going to my first ever NASCAR race. I have watched nearly every race since 1997 but been too lame to actually go. We are staying at the California that Friday, then the South Point the next two nights, then flying back home early that Monday morning. As usually I cannot wait to go back again. This trip was the first time we did not come home with more money than we took but hey thats Vegas!!
