I just found out that most of the strip casinos now have a monitoring system to get free drinks while playing video poker at the bar. LAME. Are there any strip casinos that still comp drinks at the video poker bar without a computer tracking you?

If you are not playing and want free drinks, try Downtown. Every Harrah's property has a monitoring system. Cosmopolitan has one that spits out coupons, it works great if you are playing. If you are not playing but want free drinks get away from the bar and tip the cocktail waitress. I will be grateful that you left me a seat.

Most of the MGM properties (as of last November anyway) don't use the monitoring system although there are a couple (MGM lobby bar and Mirage bar) that use the ticket system.

last trip, (feb 2- 6) we played at the Bond bar in Cosmo. The bartender comped our first drink and then the computer would spit out tickets for comp drinks from that point on. I thought the rate that the comp drinks tickets were coming at were fine. I was playing $1 betting Max ($5)

Another plus to the bond bar is the wife likes Grey Goose vodka. Many of the casinos refuse to comp Goose, only offering Absolute etc. No issues having Grey Goose comped at Cosmo.

You can get great drinks at Cosmo playing VP. I usually play at the Chandelier bar. They would Comp me specialty drinks on my tickets like Becky with the Good Hair and Mr Miagi! Both excellent. They comp the first drink when you sit down and put money in a machine and then the tickets seem to come out every 15 minutes or so. Just don't hesitate very long between hitting the deal button or I believe the countdown timer resets on it printing another drink ticket I always ended up with a pile of tickets and way more than I needed to drink. I would give them to others at the bar as they expire after so many hours. Some bartenders are sticklers for the expiration time but most will let you use them after.

If you're playing a reasonable amount at all, it's not really a problem anywhere. Last trip I couldn't finish my drinks fast enough at Bugsy's, TAG, Gustav's, and Mirage Sports Bar; all but one CET.

What if you like to play slow or take frequent breaks while VP playing? Will the machines reset, or do they still consider the coin-in (albeit slower) more important? I mainly play at NYNY Center Bar (have not played since ticket system). I am still occupying the seat and playing, however, not playing fast (and don't want to play fast - enjoy my drink and soak in the surroundings)?

As others have said, my personal experience has been that I can't drink fast enough to keep up with the tickets, even if I play slow...

One thing to notice...all bars seem to be giving you your first drink free...you could bar hop & not worry about it.
I agree that the monitoring system was irrelevant--I had no issues getting drinks frequently enough. I play .25 VP at CET (yeah yeah, odds suck. But stupidly my $ lasts longer there than most MLife or Palms. I do seem to do well at Aria & Cosmo)
