    My Trip Report

Hello all! Welcome to my fourteenth Vegas trip, for which I’ll be departing tomorrow night at 8:00 pm EST. Just checked in on WestJet, and I cannot wait to get on that plane to get this party started!

Ahead of us we’ve got nine days and eight nights consisting of some rodeo events, two (possibly three) spa visits, good eats, cocktails, and of course… casino action!

The story behind this trip is a bit of a funny one. I had a trip semi-planned for January, in which I would have been attending CES for work, and then I had four hotel stays lined up after that (including four nights in the Jubilee Executive Suite at Bally’s… it killed me to cancel that :( ). But CES then became questionable, and then an opportunity came up for me to get three free tickets to the rodeo (in a VIP suite) in the second week of December… so I figured if I’m going to do an impulse trip down to Vegas just for the rodeo… why not extend my trip to do all the stuff I’d planned to do in January anyhow? I still hadn’t booked my January flights, and my hotel reservations were refundable… so it seemed completely plausible.

So I shuffled my spreadsheets around, fiddled with flight dates, and listed off all of my January items that I really wanted to do… and realized this can work perfectly for me to go in December instead! Cancelled everything in January, and we were off to the races for tomorrow’s trip.

Anyway, what have we got planned for this trip? At a high level…

Aria for two nights (on a MyVegas comp… I refuse to actually pay to stay there again)
    - Spa all day Monday, with a break for lunch at Milos next door right in the middle (I can’t go there in my spa robe sadly :( I called them and they said no. Cannot believe I’ll actually have to take a spa break in normal clothes)
    - Rodeo that night
    - Seeing Hardnox, my favourite Vegas DJs, at Jewel Nightclub later that night. I’ve got tentative plans to go out drinking with them later in the trip as well, which will be amazing!

Gold Coast for two nights (on a casino comp, I don’t know how I keep getting these with my low-ass play, but I’ll take it)
    - I’ll be spending a morning/early afternoon at the Palms’ new domed pool. It will feel weird to be at a Vegas pool in the winter, especially when it will “feel” kind of outdoors from the sunlight coming in. I’m surprised that Vegas journalists haven’t flocked here yet. I can find very few photos of it online and I hope to change that with what I’ll be posting in this TR.
    - Also getting breakfast at Blueberry Hill and dinner at the Noodle Exchange, cannot wait to have that hot pot! In part, @smerrian is to thank for that, as he mentioned in a prior TR how fond he is of the hot pot there. If you’re reading this, please comment to tell me which one I should get!
    - Will also be taking the Flamingo bus over to Ellis Island to get that “jacked up” grilled cheese on @AllenAndRossi ’s recommendation.. there will be detailed photographs of that, including up-close cheese oozing photos
    - Rodeo both of these nights
    - I’ll be taking my rodeo host friend for a tour of downtown Vegas too, which she hasn’t explored much

Luxor for two nights (managed to get this exceptionally cheap… opted for a pyramid room over a tower room despite the latter rooms being nicer, as I’ve always wanted to experience what these rooms are like, especially with the angled elevator)
    - Bunch of exploring the strip. I’ve got plans to do the VR experience at the Linq promenade, and the Eiffel Tower experience at Paris
    - I’m also forcing myself to finally do both the Barrick gallery at UNLV and Double Down. I’ve put this off for WAY too many trips now, and it absolutely has to happen.
    - I’ll be hitting Cowboy Christmas too at the Convention Centre, loved that last year
    - Will also be doing a downtown evening, which will include using up my unused LVA play vouchers, as well as a $25 freeplay and matchplay from The D. Probably bingo at the Plaza too.
    - Food in this stretch will include Oyster Bar, Mon Ami Gabi (there will be a certain coffee ritual in honour of @Flowers trip report :) ), and Triple George
    - Got a meetup planned with @Astribling in this stretch too
    - I’ve also got $75 in Konami freeplay from MyVegas, I’ll be redeeming that and taking a long shot with it

Eastside Cannery for two nights (capitalized on a Black Friday deal at the very last minute… booked a basic room but will upgrade even if I have to pay to get a high floor. The unobstructed mountain and/or strip views from out there on an upper floor will be amazing.)
    - Morning/Afternoon at Water Street, which will include getting a hot towel shave at the vintage barbershop, playing bingo at Eldorado, getting lunch at Juan’s Flaming Fajitas again, and probably trying the new Mojave Brewing in the old Bank of America building.
    - Afternoon/Evening at the Clark County Museum, where I’ll be getting a closer look at their heritage village (I was rushed when I checked it out this time last year).
    - Interestingly, I’m actually volunteering at the museum too for a few hours, for an open house they’re doing for the holidays. I figure that will be fun to do, and I’m more than happy to help out for such a great museum.
    - Sunday will be on the strip which will mostly be at Caesars Palace. That will include an afternoon at the Qua Baths, getting a closer look at the Forum Shops (the only time I’ve ever been is when I had to replace my phone this summer and I had to rush, so I’d like to peruse it at my leisure), probably hitting Vista Cocktail Lounge and/or Cleopatra’s Barge, and then getting Sunday Gravy at Rao’s.

Side note, I’ll be trying the RTC’s “trip to strip” app at least once to see how it compares to Uber/Lyft. There will be details and commentary, not to worry.

Sadly, this will be my last Vegas trip for a while, probably until the summer at the earliest. I’ve got some priority changes in the works, and have to take a bit more of a “conservative” approach to things. This was a perfect opportunity for me to take advantage of the rodeo tickets and combine that trip with my original January trip. Thus, I’ll be living it up to the maximum on this trip.

Looking forward to having you all along with me! Stay tuned for breakfast tomorrow, which will be my last home-cooked meal before leaving, and then some airport footage.

Preview… there may end up being a rather “creative” cocktail involved on the plane ride over. There’s a chance it may not work out, so I don’t want to go into too much detail at the outset. But if it materializes, I’ll gladly share the photos of it :)

Also tried the mobile check-in at Aria for the first time. Thought I’d try it out. Pretty smooth, didn’t need to scan my ID or anything, I guess they do that when you pick up your keys.

Since I don’t need to negotiate an early check-in with a late arrival, I’m not terribly opposed to going this route.

It also offered me an option to upgrade to the club lounge for a flat $100 per day. Cannot see that much value in it even for two people. Pass.

Dig every NFC report. We need pics of your cowboy hat you will be wearing to the rodeo.

We all know you have one!

Same one as last year. It will be worn though :)

Lol, I’m afraid not. No flamingoes this trip, it just isn’t a practical outfit.

Funny enough, I came across the PERFECT miniature stuffed flamingo yesterday to attach to a hat, as yet another addition to the flamingo look. So I’ll have the hat, the shirt, the shorts, and the socks.

Vegas won’t be able to handle this level of swagger when the summer comes ;)

I'm really curious about that domed pool now. I could have sworn it was cancelled or something. I do recall hearing a lot of issues with it from vital Vegas but I might have misunderstood or skimmed too fast.

I called them a week ago and according to them, it's been completed.

The first photo in this November 5 article from LVRJ suggests the same: https://www.reviewjournal.com/entertainment/entertainment-columns/kats/kaos-could-become-pool-space-for-locals-one-off-concerts-1886418/

We'll find out this week :) I'll video call you from the water, as my time there should line up with when you'll be on lunch.

Have a great time, @notfromconcentrate ! One of the great things about LV is that there's always something new to discover and always some great treasures to re-visit.

Get the original beef hot pot your first time. I enjoy it the most, anyhow.

I found this grilled cheese/tomato dipping sauce at Ellis Island to be good, but nothing great and worth about what it cost at $7-8, or so. I highly recommend the grilled cheese and tomato soup at Wynn cafe (the one that you order at the counter like a Starbucks). At $18 it seems outrageous but it is the best grilled cheese and best tomato soup I have ever had and well worth the money. I watch every penny in LV (not at home...or I'd be divorced) and I have to say, it wasn't $18 for a grilled cheese and tomato soup, it was $18 for a meal I will never forget. Exquisite. I got the heads up from @Flowers .

Thanks for the feedback Smerrian! :)

I actually did this on my last trip on Flowers’ recommendation. I drew a similar conclusion to yours; great, worth it, but not quite “best ever” for me. Interesting to hear you weren’t wowed by the Ellis Island one, as I’ve heard other amazing reviews of it besides Allenandrossi’s take.

Guess we’ll just have to find out :)

The Kaos club was closed but they still have the pool that used to house it. An indoor pool is kind of cool though. I’m curious to see what the temperature is inside though...

NFC thanks for letting us tag along again. I look forward to the off strip portions, particularly your time in Henderson. As always have fun and come back with more money than you left with.

Hey also you never finished up your Buffalo story. Interested in how everything else went.

Thanks for reminding me! I’ll write up a fast recap on my way to the airport later today.

Preview: for reasons that have absolutely nothing to do with Buffalo itself, it ended up being one of the worst trips I’ve ever taken. The cliffhanger I’ll leave you with is getting home involved four rideshares, two trains, and two buses, and it amounted to me being up for 27 straight hours. Looking back, it was actually quite an adventure (and a REAL prompt for me to get a driver’s license!)... and most importantly, I have no regrets whatsoever about it, particularly because of how good the concert was :)
