When I hear this from a clerk, I make a mental note of their name so I can give them an attaboy later on for any survey I will get from the property. Hopefully, getting them points on their next evaluation.

Hey all headed out on Sunday for 5 nights. Comped a studio king (heard horrible things) at Flmaingo. If I sign out of TR the studio king and Go mini suite are the same price.
Usually around this time I'll get an email asking if I would like to pay for an upgrade. I haven't yet
Do you think the $20 trick could work for this, should I wait a couple more days for said email, or should I just call em up and ask how much to upgrade?
    Thanks!

I would try $20 dollar trick. You're checking in when a lot of people are checking out. Should be good to go.

I tried 20 trick, was denied. Upgrade was 500. So, I kept the room. It was big, nice view, clean, and quiet. Yes, a bit dated but not bad!

I will be checking in at Flamingo on Sunday May 27 at about 6:00pm.

We are booked into a Go Room with no view specified.

I know that the $20 'trick' doesn't work here...what about a free upgrade to a strip view or a reduced rate upgrade to an Go Executive room or one of their suites?

The problem I've had at the Flamingo is the Check In desk lines have been long when I've arrived, so I just go to the Check In Kiosk. And those bastards don't seem to react to an extra $20 thrown their way!

$20 trick appeared to work for me, at least a variation of such. I had 3 comped Pet Stay room nights, realized what I booked a few weeks later. I have a slight allergy to dogs so was a bit nervous.

I had a $20 out just in case there was an opportunity to try it. The clerk asked for my drivers license which I handed over and kept my credit card and $20 on the counter. I asked if there were any other rooms available due to my allergies. The clerk seemed to be eyeballing the $20 on the counter and then started looking at the her monitor. I immediately proceeded to hand her my credit card along with the $20 which she took and put off to the side.

I ended up with a good sized, clean king bed Go room on the 26th floor with a nice view of the strip across from Caesar's. Not sure if this was a huge upgrade, but it seemed to me to be well worth it. This was also on a Saturday Evening when there was quite a long line. I was a bit miffed at first when the kiosk didn't work, but now am glad it didn't.

Do I stand a chance of doing the $20 trick for a strip view room If I Book Room Through Allegiant? Staying at Flamingo.

$20 trick is always possible regardless of your method of booking.

But zero chance of cost being comped.

Correct, though if they have additional on-property expenses (whether bar, dining, gift shop, etc.) those could be comped off too based on play. Likewise for the resort fee (which I assume will be assessed, since if the OP is Diamond or above they'd almost certainly have better rates than an OTA by booking direct).

To the OP, yes go for it. From what I recall, the strip view rooms at Flamingo have a bit of a "compromised" visibility due to the signage on the hotel room windows. Though that could have changed since I was last there. Either way, the $20 trick never ever hurts to try... especially if your goal is a relatively easy upgrade like this.

at CET? Unless you're going to play pretty big (like get a host big) this is generally pointless to ask for a back-end comp from a third party booking. I would go somewhere else if I had this sort of strategy in mind.

Also, CET scraped the wrap off the Flamingo

Thanks gang. I’m way too much a low roller to even contemplate comps but I’ll try the $20 trick and let you know.

When we stayed at Flamingo in July, they only have check in kiosks, so who do you give the $20 to?
