My first stay ever was at the Jockey Club with my parents in 1975. I think we were there for a convention. We saw the movie “Jaws” and I remember vaguely going into Circus Circus for trapeze shows and seeing the live lion at the MGM (now Bally’s). My mom carried a cup full of quarters everywhere. First stay as an adult was at Flamingo in 1989. The Mirage had just opened and my friend hit $400 on a dollar slot and thought he broke the machine because it wouldn’t stop spitting out coins. That was in the days of change ladies who worked up above a circle of slot machines. I still remember filling the plastic racks with dollar coins. That was a big win—between us we probably took $150 in gambling money for the whole trip.
