Not as bad as people make out! Quite a walk to the main action on the Strip but bus stop outside hotel for the Deuce or over the road for the faster SDX .

From VMB I learned that the best way to get to the observation deck is to go to the 107 lounge for happy hour!! The elevator ride up is free, and prices on drinks and apps are very good!! Happy hour is over at 7, so going for around that time you can be up there to watch the sunset. If you are going to ride the rides check groupon for deals.

You'll have fun... lotta improvements/changes of late... if you do go out for a walk, go north or south on LV Blvd... DON'T go west, behind the property. It's not nice back there.

As mentioned be sure have one in the lounge at sunset or even daylight. Best view in LV. Golf clubhouse in the Revere at Anthem is close, but it doesn't rotate. Maybe in a really bad earthquake, but not normally! If you have a little daredevil in you, they have a few rides to try your nerves too.

    Good Luck!

The STRAT/Sahara is one of the few places where the monorail provides a practical transportation alternative. Conveniently located across the street are a dispensary, a gun range, and a McDonalds; not necessarily in that order. Also, the Aztec Inn is closed, or should be, or you should just think of it as being closed.

Do not get tempted to walk in the neighborhood behind the Strat after dark. It’s called Naked City and not the best place. There is monorail very close as well as the express bus downtown. This makes it easy to get around if you don’t like the Uber lyft approach which is nice. View is nice while you have a drink too.

The Blvd & Main Taphouse is pretty new and looks like it'd be worth a try. I'm sorry I haven't been to this new spot in the Strat so I can't give you a review.
I don't know if it's still going on, but Stratosphere used to open up a showroom on NFL Sundays with a bunch of screens to watch the games. There were food & drink specials, remote betting station, and a BJ table or two. It might be worth checking out if your stay will be over a Sunday. Since they have a Will Hill book now, maybe they stopped doing this?

They stopped doing the NFL party a few years ago.

Fun Fact for the OP and others who may not know... the area behind the Strat is called The Naked City because back in the day (50's, 60's, 70's) a good portion of the town's showgirls, strippers and cocktail-waitresses lived in the many apartments located in the area and used to sun themselves, in various forms of undress, out by the pools that were a part of each small apartment complex. Now... I believe all the pools have been cemented-in and the apartment complexes are about as notorious for crime and drugs as anywhere in the valley. "Not the best place" is wording it nicely.

In May, I took the monorail to the last stop and walked to the Strat. For giggles, I dropped into the Bonanza Gift Shop in the afternoon. I hadn't been there in years. Some hinky looking people at the liquor store on the corner were giving me the hairy eyeball and I stayed clear. Upon leaving, I chatted up the security guard in the parking lot and he said things can get real dicey what with gang bangers and dope deals in the parking lot after dark. I'll not be walking anywhere around that area at night.

Is Strat really considered off strip? I know it's on the far end like MB but I always thought it was on the strip. Asking because this topic is in the off-strip forum.

I've been to the Bonanza multiple times after dark and never felt threatened. I guess spending plenty of time in big scary cities like Philadelphia has hardened me.

I'm fairly certain it's considered downtown within the boundary lines and perhaps (technically 'off strip'?)
I could be wrong though, I've been wrong once before:)

There was a small Adult Pool with " nice views".....on the higher floor.
Something for the nephews, of course.
    The "regular" pool was decent.
The center casino bar used to run different drink specials over the years.
And yes....there can be a " Cast Of Street Characters " at anytime around outside area.
Take The Duece down to Fremont St - Bus Stop right across from Hotel.
The Strat gets a Bad Rap .....but I always had a great time there and didn't pay Top Dollar.

I can’t speak for the moderators, but it would be hard for me to characterize The Strat as being ‘on the Strip’. For me the Strip is never ending glitz with a high security presence as you walk from property to property. I would say that the walk from Mandalay Bay to Fashion Show Mall fits that definition, while the walk from Fashion Show Mall to The Strat does not. Likewise, Downtown used to be defined as a small tourist island in the middle of nowhere. Downtown is so much more than that today, but The Strat is still a separate island.

Just out of curiosity, how do they keep the crime and drug deals from spilling over into the Strat? Oh is there an unspoken code where it's like "if you're gonna do a deal, don't do it at the Start, do it at the McDonald's instead"

At first, I thought that since the Sahara is clearly on the Strip and the Strat is right across the street then the Strat Must be on the Strip.

Then I remembered this picture....Welcome to Downtown La Vega!

I would classify it as a "strip" property, since it is on Las Vegas Blvd. and within walking distance of CircusCircus and Sahara, which are strip properties.

The overhead sign in the pic seems to place it as a "downtown" property. And so do most of the 3rd party travel sites.

The one thing it isn't is an "off strip" property.
