Hello all! I've been reading this board for months and have enjoyed it immensely, particularly the trip reports. This is my first post and I thought I would introduce myself by laying out the plans for my 50th birthday weekend. As with any trip to Vegas, planning is really just creating a framework and then following the flow as the days unfold. Comments are appreciated.

    Background:

First, this will be my eighth trip to Vegas. Living on the east coast makes trips a little tougher and because I have to fly out of Charlotte where flights are pretty expensive ($550 minimum direct r/t to LAS). If you're not familiar with CLT I'll just say that American controls 86% of our gate space and 94% of our departures. I can fly to Vegas from other cities with those flights connecting through Charlotte cheaper than fly direct from Charlotte. It really is crazy.

Second, I play table games, blackjack mostly with a little craps mixed in for variety.

Third, this will be a trip for my 50th birthday with four other couples. These are couples that we haven't traveled with previously and none of us are particularly close but we all have fun when we're together.

The 10 of us will be staying at the Bellagio, more for the pool than the casino. Of the people on the trip only myself and one other husband really enjoy playing, but everyone else is planning on some significant time at the Cypress Pool. We're arriving Thursday 9/28 and will be there until Sunday morning.

    The Trip:

    Day One- Thursday 9/28

Flight arrives at 1:45pm and we're going straight to Bellagio to check in, rest for an hour or two, shower and then head to Freemont Street to do some low rolling and to teach the non-gamblers how to play craps. Also on the Freemont/Downtown agenda will be a ride on the Slotzilla zipline and drinks at the Downtown Cocktail Room. Does anyone have other suggestions? How about transport from/to the Bellagio?

    Day Two- Friday 9/29

Weather permitted, pool time at Cypress for the main group. Table time for me. Dinner is 7pm at Yellowtail, followed by the 10pm Absinthe show. Gambling at Bellagio. Any tips for activities if the weather prevents quality pool time.

    Day Three- Saturday 9/30

Walking the strip to casino hop. Not an easy endeavor I know, but it will be fun. The plan is to walk north and see how far we can get before we either (a) get tired or (b) pass out. Need a dinner recommendation and any other pointers you may have to offer.

    Day Four- Sunday 10/1

We're making early appointments with Dr. Hangover then flying home at lunch time.

So, I'd appreciate any input, commentary or questions. I've never done a Vegas trip with a group and I'd love some advice from those who have done a trip like ours. We don't have a problem walking a fair amount, getting a limo/car or staying close to home base. All of us are foodies and some are craft brew aficionados. We all enjoy fun...from mild to wild.

    Thanks in advance!!!

    Welcome, FirstBase!*
*Your username is memorable to me because it took me twenty-seven years to get there. :faint: But that's discussion for another thread!

I hope you have a great time on your birthday group trip!
I anticipate you should get some good tips, advice, recommendations from VMBers who've taken group trips...

    Best wishes! :D

HaHa! My name is in reference to the position where I prefer to sit at a blackjack table, it's a superstition. I've never played baseball. Thank you!

Riding the rides at Stratosphere would be another thing to do, and Uber/Lyft probably your best bet for transportation.

Probably walking the south end of the strip all the way to Mandalay.

I personally wouldn't venture farther than the Wynn/Encore since you're going to downtown the first day, but that's your call. SW Steakhouse at the Wynn will always be a favorite recommendation of mine.

I recently went to Vegas with a bunch of folks for my 40th birthday. My wife and I organized a private dinner at Carbone, which was amazing. They might not let you have a private room there due to your smaller group size, but it's something to consider either at Carbone or elsewhere for that matter for a special experience (nice printed menu and you can pre-select food and wine if that's your thing). I hope you enjoy Yellowtail - I haven't been in a long time, but if they have the sushi with the pop rocks you should try it. Happy birthday.

Thanks! I'll look into Carbone. You're right, at 10 people we're a little to small to go the private dining room route but just big enough to make it tough to get a table.
