Are these still a thing? Unfortunately, when we booked, I didn't even think of the First Friday thing. The last time we were there it was a crazy, cluster %$*#. Is this still the case? Thanks.
Stumbled upon a you tube video yesterday and it looks like a cluster to me. Not something I'd want to be a part of personally.
I was there for 1st Friday in May and I really didn't notice it being any more crazy than a typical Friday night. Of course I had been drinking since noon so my view could have been skewed !!
I was there for the first Friday in June, all exits to Fremont street were gated and police were very heavy. Talked to locals and store owners and they were all 50/50 on it. Those who enjoyed the art on Fremont East enjoyed walking around, and the other half disliked the hubbub saying it was a glorification of a normal day. Besides the increase in police and gates, I honestly didn't notice a difference. Seemed like a typical Friday night, 80s Station on the stage and cheap beers all around!
Thanks for the update. I was wondering if they still gate everything off. Just the info I was looking for.
I have been avoiding this mainly because it's reported to be such a zoo! They told me it was like a bouncer in reverse. They card you going OUT of the casino!
That'll be my first night there in October. Staying at the Cal, so I'm wondering if I want to bother walking down to even mess with it, or just do the MSS/Cal, DTG circuit. I've never been there for FF, but if the crowds are just nutso, I'll probably avoid it. Are the casinos crowded asses-to-elbows, too? Or just the street?
I didn't notice crowded casinos, but the streets were busier than normal. Over half of my trips are spent off of the FSE; mezzanine to cal, over to Plaza and looping back. It's far less crowded than walking Fremont street.
I tried to search and had no luck finding First Friday D T on these forums. Anyone have first hand knowledge? I have read what it is about and think it will be crowded. Our trip is an Oct. birthday trip and we didn't know about FF. First time staying DT. Any pointers?
I was there in June. Depends what you like. It was crowded as can be with high security. But it was fun. If you do not like crowds or just want to see the street not great. But I did enjoy it for one night
was there last week, did go deep into the arts district it was fun with all kinds of booths set up, saw a performance of KID SISTER by the MAJESTIC REP THEATER GROUP in an intimate theater next to Buffalo Exchange on SOUTH main. the performance group was absolutely incredible, highly recommend
