Was at the Cosmo this week & saw a new (to me) VP variant - Fire Poker. It's an IGT/VideoPoker.com branded game, but this variant isn't on the videopoker website. I think I saw one of these in another casino this week, but can't recall which one.

After playing a hand, you can randomly be awarded up 3-25 free games. The free games were always at least 2x the normal payout. Not sure what the max multiplier is, but I think I saw 12x at least once. You can also hit a retrigger during the bonus games. This will add 1 or more additional free games, and increases your multiplier by whatever you started at for any games you haven't played yet. Example: You start out with 4 free games @ 3x multiplier. You hit a retrigger after playing the second game for 2 more free games. Games 3 & 4 will now have a 6x multiplier, and games 5 & 6 have a 3x multiplier. You can hit multiple retriggers during one bonus round.

The bonus game is a set of free hands of VP (matching the # of hands you were playing in the game).

Pretty high premium for this game, since it's double the normal # of coins (similar to Dream Card). But in my experience, I felt it was better than DC, because you were guaranteed at least 3 separate attempts at hands with a multiplier. But that may be a tainted view since I did a lot better on these overall than on Dream Card :p Will be interesting to see what the actual math is.

Has anyone else played this? What did you think?

I thought I took a pic of the paytables, but apparently not. I believe DDB was 8/5 for 3 or 5 play, and 9/5 for 10 play (dimes).

I had great success with the bonus rounds. They seemed to trigger pretty frequently. I spend most of my time on "bonus" variants like Dream Card, Double Super Times Pay or Hot Roll, but this one quickly became my favorite thanks to those bonus rounds. The majority of them paid out at least 250 credits, and I had many rounds over 1000 credits. I did also hit one round that paid zero credits (which I think should be illegal :p).

Here's an example of one of the bonus rounds: Cosmo3.JPG

I looked at Fire Poker's rules real quick when I was there, but not enough info to calculate total return in the rule screens. Big Wheel Poker is another new game. That feature only adds a pathetic ~0.01% though. But I guess that's better than Hot Roll, which adds nothing.

It looks interesting, but I would need to try to find out. Videopoker.com doesn't offer it either I think. :(

Yeah, I was surprised to see it. I thought most new games were on their website for months before they ever hit casinos.

Can you share some of the math on how it adds nothing? I would've assumed it would be something similar to DSTP, since it can hit on the deal or draw (though I know DSTP can hit on both). But on the other hand, DSTP is only 7 coins while Hot Roll is 10.

I tried it when I was there and after I was up a few hundred( from other machines).
Lost a hundred pretty fast playing nickel, almost a first time for me.
The feature came up a few times, but really not won much in the free games.

    Hot Roll:

Dice roll must behave like real dice per law, therefore the average multiplier is 7X.

Dice roll frequency (assigned by IGT): 1 in 6.

So for 1 in 6 hands the multiplier is 7X on average, otherwise it's 1X

    (1/6)(7X) + (5/6)(1X) = 2X average multiplier for ALL hands.

Since you're paying double the bet for exactly a 2X multiplier, there is no return increase.

Now what I hoped IGT would do is make the bonus frequency slightly higher like 1 in 5.95, then...

    (1/5.95)(7X) + (4.95/5.95)(1X) = 2.0084X for double the bet. This would add 0.42% to a 100% return game.
Yes, the wizard of odds discusses the exact numbers. It generally adds a few tenths of a percent.
