    My Trip Report

This was my birthday trip, I go in the fall to attend Las Vegas Bike Fest, but this year I decided to include a birthday trip. I normally do downtown but this year decided to try something new, stayed at Palace Station. I made my reservation early fall, kept tags on PS and the progress of the renovation. Reached out to PS to see when their theater would be finished. Was told by the end of the year (2018). I explained that my wife wasn't into gambling but wanted to attend some movies while I gambled.

Fast forward to Sunday Feb. 24 when we flew out on SWA arriving at 8 am, picked up our rental car and headed to PS. I had paid for early check-in so our 9 am arrival was perfect timing. We were told that they were completely booked and we would have to wait till noon for a room. No problem we went to the breakfast brunch and had breakfast then gambled a bit. I did well on a Buffalo slot, which was a surprise since I didn't really know what I was doing.

We went to check-in and were told our room was ready, on the top floor (21st) and that we had $40 per day food comps. What!!! I am never comped, being a low roller. I was going to ask for ask for a high floor but didn't since we were on the top floor but we did not get a Strip view. We got a downtown/mountain view. We really enjoyed our room and view. Very comfortable bed, best bed I've had in years! I did tip the desk clerk $20 she was so nice and friendly. More on her later.

I had read all about the restaurants at PS and was looking forward to trying them all. Sunday evening we went to bBd's, really wanted to like this place but the service was terrible and the food was average. Also a little pricey.

Back to the Buffalo slot where I played for a couple of hours and won some. Really tired since we had been up since 4 am CST and it was about 10 pm PST. Great night's sleep.

Up and out the door about 8:0 am Monday headed to Red Rock Casino. Did the breakfast buffet which we both really enjoyed. I decided to try a Buffalo slot and again I was winning. After couple of hours cashed out ahead and headed back to PS. We rested in the room for about an hour. Wife went to a movie I gambled a bit breaking even for two hours of play, that's a win in my world. I don't gamble much because I get bored easily. The rest of the day was spent at PS.

Tuesday, we headed to the Egg & I, one of my favorites. Great service and food. All these years going to Vegas and we had never been to Green Valley Ranch, so we drove there. Very nice area and great casino, we enjoyed GVR, but I couldn't win at any of the slots or vp. We drove back to RR on the 215 and as we were near RR there were these amazing clouds that looked like flying saucers. It was on the news that evening. Let me just say that RR was like an ATM for me this trip. No matter what Buffalo slot I played I won. Now I was playing 1cent machines and was winning $100 to $150 while playing there. I'd vary my bets but mostly bet 40 per spin. Back at PS for the rest of the day.

Wednesday was my birthday, we started out at RR and again did well, had a late lunch at the American Café there. Back to PS, movie for my wife and some slots for me. Our nephew, his wife and two friends arriving at 5 pm. We had reservations at The STRAT for their new show Celestia at 7 pm. I decided to take Lyft since I wanted to have a few drinks. Our nephew (first timer) was to meet us after the show at about 8:30 pm. Well surprise Celestia opening had been pushed back to the end of March! We got refunded for the tickets. We met up with nephew/wife and friends to eat at McCall's Steakhouse at the Strat. Good food and drinks. Then it was up to the observation tower for a view of the city for the first timers. Fifteen or twenty minutes later a fire alarm goes off and we are told to leave floor 108 and head down the stairs to a lower floor, I think it was floor 105 where the wedding chapel is. There we find out someone had been smoking in a stairwell and the alarm went off. No fire, elevators had to be reset and we were able to return to the casino. Wow, what a birthday to remember!! We left the first timers to explore the Strat before returning to the Flamingo. Back at PS we packed up since we were leaving early the next morning.

Thursday morning we left PS about 6 am. The desk clerk that checked us in was on duty, she remembered us and took off as much as she could which was all the food we had charged to the room and early check-in fee. Returned rental car and flew back to Austin.

Except for the visit to the Strat we did not visit any other Strip or downtown properties. A first for us, had all my entertainment funds when we returned, another first. PS was great, friendly staff and very comfortable. The casino is too smoky for me. GVR is beautiful and loved RR. Next trip in October (room has been reserved, flight has not) for Bike Fest. Could not post the few photos I did take like the clouds.

Thank you for the trip report! Always wanted a Palace Station review from a fellow VMB'er!

Too bad you didn't try the Oyster Bar. Would have liked to hear your take on that.

Is Palace Station affiliated with the Station Casinos like Red Rock and Green Valley Ranch?

Oyspter Bar normally had a line waiting to eat there. I just couldn’t get myself to wait. Must be really good. When there was no line I wasn’t hungry, usually early mornings. It was very popular.

Palace Station, Green Valley Ranch and Red Rock are all Station Casinos. I had a blast at all three. Palace Station will see us again!

VegasDawg we used Lyft to get to the STRAT it was about $8. Forgot to mention that they gave us $40/day food comp, what a surprise for us first timers! Cinnebarre movie house is very nice and good for a nice break during the day. Determined to get photos from FB to add to this report. I'm not very technical.

Thanks for the price info...I use Lyft a lot, just use the word Uber to refer to both...you know Kleenex=tissue. Besides Ubering sounds so much cooler than Lyfting. Anyway hope you are successful with uploading some pics.
