Lol Now I’m starving for Ambrosia. My grandma always made that on holidays. She called it ambrosia but technically I don’t think that’s what it’s called. It had the crushed pineapple, coconut, mandarin oranges, maraschino cherries, and multi colored mini marshmallows all mixed together with sour cream. You left the pineapple juice in it too. Ever had that?

In season, which means now, Honeycrisps right out of the big box are a dollar a pound here. Other local apples cost half of that. I have not located Jonathans. They are my favorite all-purpose apples. Not sure they are grown here.

Yes I knew you meant Ambrosia apples, but the word Ambrosia got me thinking out loud. Lol I like Cortland apples best. They are great for just eating OR baking.

So last night we're talking our joint Thanksgiving with our neighbors and the husband says he's killer on mashed spuds. She says ... ambrosia.

How funny... just bought a flat of HoneyCrisp a week ago when we were down at Costco. Never had them before... LOVE 'Em!!! You're right, even with the Costco price, they were about $1 an apple.

My mom always mixed macs and cortlands for a pie too, BlacklabberMike.
Family recipe includes them. Really tasty without being too sweet.

Gotta go with Honeycrisp. They are tops to eat fresh, and make the best pies and crisp! Just made some pies and freezer pie filling from my only fruiting tree. Its a very hardy tree as well, grows well in zone 3.

Honeycrisp is fantastic, but it’s half-brother, the Sweet Tango is the best apple ever. Don’t know how wide spread tangos are outside of Minnesota, they sort of have a monopoly on it here, at the moment, because it was invented at my alma mater, along with the Honeycrisp. Good news is coming next year too, another new apple invented at the U called “Rave”, will be available in the fall. It’s a cross between the Honeycrisp & Granny Smith.

I favor Gala. Just the right balance between hard and soft. And also sweet.
