Hello all. This will be my first trip report posted here on VMB. I went to Las Vegas first in 1977 when I was 15, and of legal age 20+ times since '87. I've put a few reports on the LVA forums over the years, but honestly, I'd rather read from others'. I first have to mention a couple of sad things that happened this summer, so if you care to skip these first 2 paragraphs of bad news and get to my pre-trip details, go ahead. Two weeks after booking this upcoming trip in early June, a very good lady friend of mine died at 29 of a heroin overdose. She used to be a waitress at a BW3's that I frequent here in the Milwaukee area. She worked there up until about 4 years ago. We kept in touch, and we would meet up occasionally. She was having constant issues with her son's father, and I gladly became a shoulder to cry on for her. Her parents (I met with her father a few days after her funeral, and they harbored no ill will towards me. She told him that I was her best guy friend) knew of her worsening addiction, but I had no idea it was as bad as it was. She had scoliosis, and took her meds to ease her pain, and as so often happens, became dependent. She had a prescription for Xanax, but never mentioned heroin. I tried my best to encourage her to seek more help and/or quit, and her father had paid for 2 stints in rehab for her, but it got worse. The last time I saw her, she was in good spirits and she was looking forward to going up to her family's cabin in Northern WI for the 4th of July. I miss you Avery. In July, my father died. He was 93. He was a WWII Veteran and a firefighter in Milwaukee for 26 years. He had a spot on his lung which turned out to be cancerous. My mom passed in 2010, and he lived alone since then in an assisted living complex. So, his doctors, and we 8 siblings decided (and he agreed) that with his advanced age and outward physical condition, any chemo or other serious treatments were probably not very beneficial to him. Dad completely understood his situation. He wasn't in a lot of pain his last few weeks, but he passed in the middle of the night, so we kids really weren't able to say our goodbyes together. I regret that, but sometimes the Lord does what He does. Dad and Mom liked to go to Las Vegas. I think they were there probably 8 or 9 times. I miss you Don and Maryalice So for me, this trip I have a heavy heart. I'm entitling this the "Fall After a Sad Summer" trip report. Dates are 9/27-10/4. I'm meeting up with my buddy Terry, who's leaving MKE tonight on Southwest. He has a suite at the Golden Gate for 3 nights, El Cortez for 3, and The D for 4. His stays are overlapping, but it's 8 nights total for him. I have a 6:00 am flight tomorrow on Southwest, non-stop direct. B-35 boarding spot, with TSA Pre-check. ETA at McCarran is 7:50am local. My hotels are The D for 3, Orleans for 2, and The D again for 3. My stays are somewhat overlapping as well, 7 nights, but I'll be staying with him 1 night at the El Cortez Sat. 9/30. All of our stays are comped, with lots of freeplay, food comps, and matchplays (too many to list here. Really). Yay! I don't rent a car, but I use the bus and the Boyd free shuttle as often as needed. I also like to walk. I'll buy a $20 3-day pass for the last part of my trip when I go to the Orleans. My plans are to use as many LVA and ACG coupons as possible, as I won't be going again this year. Terry always stays Downtown, with an annual Strip coupon run, which he's already done in Spring, so he won't be joining me at the Orleans. I play mostly .25 and .50 video poker, some table and video 21, with an occasional visit to a low-minimum craps or roulette table, and I'll pop a $20 into a slot machine every once in a while. Terry prefers 21, penny slots, and very little .5 and .25 video poker. But he saw 2 people get Royals at The D's Vue Bar in Spring, and it's piqued his interest, so he's going to join me a few times there. So forgive me for my looooong introduction. I will download the Tapatalk app for my Galaxy S6, give it a try, and I'll probably end up doing it semi-live, with pics as I go, and a wrap-up after I get back. Thank you!
