The oldest known unopened bottle of wine is The Römerwein, or Speyer wine bottle—so called after the German region where it was discovered in the excavation of a 4th century AD Roman nobleman’s tomb—dates “back to between 325 and 359 AD.

(Please note that the date of this item is NOT April 1!) :) :) This is real.

The Lavarand is a patented random number generator which is periodically seeded by the images of the blobs of wax in an array of Lava Lamps. The blobs exhibit a very high degree of natural entropy and approach the highest degree of true randomness as is possible with the current state of the art.

The service provider Cloudflare uses this technique to seed and reseed the random number generators used in their cryptographic systems.

(And no, IGT slots do not have Lave Lamps inside of them to seed the random numbers!) :)

Researchers from Heidelberg University Hospital have determined it takes 6 minutes for alcohol to impact human brain cells.

Note: Researchers from Vegas Message Board have determined that 6 minutes is way too long.

VMB researchers have also definitively determined that it always takes more than 6 minutes for the cocktail waitress to come back around after you've finished your current drink.
    Fact.

During a game of American Football, when a play is sent up to the booth for "further review", watch the officials on the field carefully!

If you see two or more officials gathered around the little TV monitor, and one of them pulls out a notepad and starts writing stuff down, or more tellingly, looks like he's scratching something out, the call of the play is likely to be reversed.

Thanks. :) I gleaned that from one of the football announcers last weekend.

However, a cow-orker tells me that while it's usually true for college games, it may not be for professional games.

Globally, only 2 percent of the population has green eyes.

Edit: On this particular note, I am ending my participation in FOTD.

For games of regulation chess, white will win 52-57% of the time, depending on whose numbers you trust.

The line in the Clapton/Harrison tune Badge, about swans living in the park, was contributed by Ringo Starr, who was quite under the influence at the time.

It is absolutely impossible for anything to be more trendy than farm-to-table wood-fired free-range pumpkin spice cupcakes, served from a food truck.

Tourists are now able to safely (????) visit the still-somewhat-contaminated control room and other areas at the decommissioned Chernobyl Nuclear Plant. Visitors must wear special protective garments and are strictly limited as to the amount of time they are allowed to spend in the contaminated areas.
