Well Facebook is finally good for something. I saw a post on a friend’s timeline from somebody who said she worked at the company I retired from. The timeline was right, but I didn’t recognize the name. I messaged her and asked about it. She worked there, but in a different department that I would have no contact with. Anyway, she sees my last name on FB and inquires if I know her good friend with the same last name. It’s a 4 syllable last name, so not that common.

Long story short. After a series of back and forth messages, it turns out we are third cousins. For lunch Sunday, two of my brothers and me met two second cousins and our third cousin who we didn’t know we had. It was such a nice meeting; we are planning another one with even more of their family members.

It's good to hear someone found a use for Facebook. From what I have seen, it's mostly used for people to say "Look at me" or to cry and bitch about political issues. I call it Assbook because there seems to be more asses than faces on it!
Good luck. :beer::beer:

Very few of my family live nearby, and none of my nieces or nephews, so I find FB great for seeing photos of them or I would never recognize them! How strange they seem to be growing older, while I never do ;-)

Joe, that's awesome.

I found a guy on LinkedIn from Germany and we share the same surname, he was from the same tiny town that my great grandfather Peter was born in 1855.

Turns out we are related and we met up when he came over on holiday. Small world. The experience nudged me to do some research on ancestry dot com, which is free at my local library.

Facebook is what people make of it. No more, no less. It's simply a tool. If the content makes one sour, then turn it off. If it makes one smile, then smile. Simple concept.
