Exchange rates are keeping me home in Canada. Anyone else?

I noticed something interesting the other day in regards to the exchange rate.

Normally I like to do a bit of shopping in Vegas - the high end shops are all close together, so it makes it WAY easier to browse between brands. I was online the Farragamo website in USA $$, and a pair of shoes I liked were $650 US. I flipped over to the Canadian version/site. The exact pair are showing for $715 Canadian dollars.....only a 10% difference when there is otherwise a 30% diff on exchange right now~ wow!! Buying those shoes in Vegas rather than Vancouver I would have paid a huge premium only because of exchange. I won't be likely doing any shopping across the border on my upcoming trips only because if I don't know the Canadian prices well enough, I could really be spending more than I could have.

The one positive out of the exchange is the value of the freeplay&comps.....they are actually much more valuable and I will try to remember that when paying the crappy exchange rate. Won't stop me from Vegas, will stop my shopping cross border for now, and I'll keep my fingers crossed for some good wins- made even better with the exchange!!

It's always a nice to come in on an offer for a gift card. It's a US$ card, so when I use it in a Canadian store, I get the current exchange rate.

Bank of Canada lowered interest rates today and the Loonie just lost another 2 cents. Just wait until the US Fed raises our interest rates, then the Loonie will really fall.

I saw that. If you look at the exchange rate on the Royal Bank website this afternoon, it's at 1.32 You're upside down by 32% before you put a bill in the machine. I know some have said that if you win, you win that much more but most people, including myself leave with less than we come with. In my mind, you're either spending more for the same play or you'll earn less comps if you scale back your play. Neither works for me. I'm backing off my August trip and will wait until next Spring.

There was another thread asking if you had to gamble at a lower level, would you still enjoy it. No I wouldn't, so if I had less of a bankroll, it would affect my Vegas trip.

If it now costs me a third more to purchase a buck, even if I take the same bankroll, I'm not going to enjoy it as much.

It's not keeping me home. But surely going to make me think about where my money is being spent on, and how to ease the pain. using comp food more, cheaper places, cheaper rooms using comps. Gamble smarter! Less slots, much more VP and BJ. But I know that will likely end in disaster.

My September trip is 10 nights. Wish me luck. When and if our dollar ever gets back near par, I'm gonna convert a lot of cash over.

I was going to cancel my flight to Vegas for August 2nd and then let my host know that we wouldn't be coming but thought I would check to see what change or cancellation fees there was from Air Canada. They will bank my ticket and I can use it within 1 year but there will be a change fee of 200.00! I only paid 250.00 for the ticket plus the bazillion taxes that are charged. Doesn't make sense to cancel now...
I'll just have to pull back on my gaming and then endure the "discussion" with my host on my level of play. Oh well... Maybe I'll get lucky and hit some decent hands on DDB VP.

That's the best solution. Cut back on the gambling.

Stressing out over even a thousand bucks (on the exchange) isn't worth a nickle in my books.

    Go have fun and enyoy!!!

For anyone that goes to canada from the US and has played at caesars windsor, Am I better off exchanging my USD for Canadian money when I get to the casino, or before I go at my bank. Last time I went I had leftover canadian money and never needed to get more. But this time I have no canadian cash on hand so need to get some before I visit windsor after a tigers game for a couple days in a couple weeks.

I was there a few weeks ago. If you are a 7 Star player, they give you a preferred rate. The posted rate at the cage for the masses was about 300 basis points off of spot. So, the U.S. Dollar was trading at 1.23 and the cage would give 1.20. The rate is probably similar to your bank, if not slightly worse.

Not keeping me at home. I have an American bank account that I put "Vegas " money in every month. It takes a little bit of the sting out as I don't see the actual cost of it that way. I have also had a lucky couple of years too. which has helped our with the exchange rate.
